Okay, i basically got swept up in space junk when i was in 4th grade when Apollo 13 (The Movie) came out. I remember when they came around from the dark side of the moon they mentioned and showed a crater called "zokaski (i think its spelled wrong) crater". Any one now what im talking about and where its located on a map of the moon?

Hello, I do not know of a crater by that name. There is a Tsiolkovsky. Could that be it? Also a Jansky and a Jansen,

Hi,
I've checked all the crater names starting with Z and none are even close to that. Any other ideas?
If you want I can post all the Z craters for you to check the names.

Out of interest I just popped my copy in and had a look at that scene - it goes something like this:
"Wow, will you look at the Zeokovsky (sp?) crater"..
"I can't believe how bright the ejecta is"...
And the crater that is shown in the footege is indeed quite large and impressive.
I'll have a look on a map and see if that name is close to anything that I can recognise.
cheers, Bird

wow, 1 minute into my movie script search i found it!
"Look at the Tsiolkovskii crater. I can't believe how bright the ejector blanket is. It's like snow. It's beautiful. That's Mare Imbrium to the north. "
So its spelled "Tsiolkovskii" (if the script is correct). But Drats! I have to go to work and i dont have enough time to do a search for it! The quest will continue in 7 hours! lol

Hello!, I think the crater you want is Tsiolkovski and it is located on the far side! This is not a great image, but it does show the crater's dark maria filled floor.

Ya thats it. This may sound dumb, but if its on the far side, wouldnt it be covered by the great shadow? (thats my term, great shadow lol).

No - the "far side" get lit up by the sun too - we just can't see it :-)
When we have a "new moon" then the half that we can't see is fully lit.

I thought the back half was never lit no matter what phase of the moon?

When we have a "new moon' then the moon is between us and the sun (or close enough to it).
Think about it :-)

Here is a trivia question. During a complete phase of the moon, what was the total percentage of the moon's surface you viewed during the month, and why?

We would see something just over 50% of the moon's surface. As the moon orbits the earth, it rotates at almost exactly the same rate so that one face is always towards us. However, libration allows us to see just a smidgen more that 50%...so maybe 50-55% can be seen during a complete lunar cycle.

Real close Captain Green.
The actual number and I shouldn't use the word actual, because is actually approximate. But, to answer the question a person can see approximately 59% of the moon during the month because it wobbles.
Okay someone else's turn to come up with a Trivia Question.

What about none of the above. But one thing is for sure: it's blue cheese, once in a blue moon.
Did I win?!?!?!
