Nexstar SE Mounts

Why the heck Celestron doesn't sell these as a separate item is beyond me. They could make a killing on them. I managed to get a used larger one (6SE/8SE) for a good price (thanks again Fred1). It's just a wee bit big to haul in the truck. If I found the smaller one (4SE/5SE) I'd probably jump all over it if the price was right. Seems like it would be perfect for a grab'n'go such as I require for the truck.

I agree. I found a used one after I got my little C6 and bought it -- then discovered it also came with another OTA.

So now I've got a pair of little Celestron cats running around the house (one orange, one black) to go along with all my other cats - furry, aluminum, and carbon fiber.

If I had the smaller mount, I would be happy to swap.

You're welcome, Doug76. I'm glad you're enjoying it. It seems the mount is getting to see quite a bit of the country, too. I agree the SE mount should be available separately just as Celestron sells stand alone OTAs. Nothing wrong with mixing and matching.

It looks like they're all for getting the most out of your equipment ...

Actually Fred, that mount I got from you stays at home. My Dad likes using it on occasion.
On the road I have been using an AT66ED with the Orion Teletrack mount. But I am donating that rig to a good friend and his son, and I am going to replace the scope with an AT80EDT in the original white/gunmetal aluminum body version which Astronomics says they will be offering again in a few weeks. I want the smaller version of the SE mount for that. I think it will be a perfect combo.

I used the NexStar SE mount with my AT80EDT and it is a great combination. I predict you will be very happy with that setup.

I figured as much, but it's nice to get confirmation. No balance problems or issues with the EP/Diagonal hitting the base?

It would appear that I now own, but not yet possess, the smaller version of the SE mount. Thanks to Mr. wbrogdo1.

Now if the dang hurricane will just fade away. Ain't looking to good for my home state, again!

Thanks for the link. It appears the smaller mount is called the SE1, and the larger SE2. Nice to know the designation. Even nicer to know I now own one of each. Can't wait to see the new one.

No balance issues - but it's tight clearance with a 2 inch diagonal. I set it up so I had 1/16" clearance when the scope was focused - but I always watched carefully if I slewed to anything near zenith.

One caveat: my mount is the bigger mount for the SE6 and SE8. Please double check the fork arm length on the smaller mount to be sure.

Well, now I have both versions of the SE mount, so I can make the comparison. I'll try it out with the AT66ED before I send it off to my friend and his son.
And I'll likely stay with a 1.25" diagonal on the AT80EDT. My finder EP will be the Televue 32mm Plossl. That will provide nearly 3deg FoV, which should be enough.
Wish this computer had a degree symbol key on it.
