The CGE Pro is a better choice for the C14 and also puts the cross-hairs on the Losmandy Titan and MI-250. Two birds with one stone - give the C14 a mount that it deserves and pick up a share of the mid-priced heavy duty mount market.

I may sell my 15" Obsession to go for a C14 on the CGE Pro once there are some user reports on the mount. I'm still a bit put off by the 75# mount head. I like to observe solo much of the time. While I can certainly lift the 75# to the tripod cap, I don't think it would be "fun" to do so on a regular basis.

Regards,

Jim

Sure is impressive, but wonder 'who needs one?'. I know i don't, but then I'm just small fry. My fleeting imression is that folks with $20,000 scopes want at least $10,000 mounts... call it the glam factor or what you you will, but I wonder if this mount has the 'cache' to appeal to the high end high weight crowd?

Could be for someone with reasonably priced "large" OTA's that are really just a little to much for a CGE and who doesn't want to buy a Paramount ME.

Is that a CGE I see straining under that whopper? Only 1 counterweight?

Beautiful scope and pic, wow.

I wonder if there are any reports on the accuracy of the CGE Pro for imaging purposes. It seems there are other mounts in that price neighborhood that have end user data on them. Found this?

So there's no confusion, I think the mount in the picture above is one of the original CGE Pro prototypes of a few years ago; they never went into production. It's got the original CDK 20 on top.

It isn't the current CGE Pro, that isn't quite as big.

Chris

Nor quite so expensive. The original CGE Pro existed only in prototype form. The new CGE Pro isn't very similar. The reason there is no user data on the new model is that they aren't yet in the hands of any users.

Some sites state that they are "in stock". Does anyone have one? Looking for your thoughts and first report on this mount

They are now being delivered. At least one of the members of my CGE Pro Yahoogroup received his mount this past week.

Thanks, Unk,

Due totally to your statement above, I signed up for yet another of your Yahoo groups. The person that took delivery of the CGE PRO posted a link to his Website with a picture of the Pro set up in his home. There's a mighty little-looking TV102i mounted on it. I gotta say, that is one nice looking mount! I want one, I don't need one, I want one, I don't need one... We'll see which side wins.

Steve:

Yes, I believe that it can handle a 8" refractor with ease.

Dave:

NO! Unless you are still built like Arnold! I'm 54 and I couldn't handle it myself. Now, 10 years ago...

Steve

Hi, Phil.

What's your latitude (probably similar to mine)? What's the height from the base of the electronics pier to the saddle with the appropriate latitude setting? I'm adding a permanent extension to my pier base tomorrow which will, I suspect, make it too tall for a Pro but I'd like to know whether I'd still have the option.

My Lat is approx 42 07 00 measuring from base of pier to mid point of saddle I get 29".

Thanks, Phil!

My latitude is similar (about 41 degrees) so the height would be similar.

It would work with my current pier - it was installed for a wedgemounted Meade and I had to add a "temporary" extension for GEM use several years ago. I plan to pour a permanent extension tomorrow, though, and that will make installing a CGE Pro tricky if one shows up here.
