My "Manny" AT Voyager!
      #2983762 - 03/14/09 04:08 PM Attachment (62 downloads)

My AT Voyager is all dressed up with Manny's Accessories! They fit & perform beautifully! They are so well made that they look like original equipment!

Here's some photos: (I put the eyepiece tray smaller disc on wrong, but will change it):

Thanks so much Manny!

It's Manny Myles, a great member here. The accessories are the add-on to the AT arm, that allows a scope to be mounted from the bottom, rather that from the side. A very handy panning handle is attached to that, also.

Then there is the plexiglass eyepiece holder.

Manny, my driveway where this was sitting is the most level area around, & still has quite a "lean".

Thanks again, Manny!

Manny, if you don't mind me asking, would this add-on mounting device work well with my WO Megrez 80 FD?
Do you custom-make these so the scope with it's usual accesories is balanced?
Do you have a web-site giving details?

Hi Mark,
Below is my WO 80mm Megrez II FD on the Voyager, balance problems???
Not since I designed the brackets.
The scope is so back heavy I could not leave it unattended for fear of it toppling, with the bracket, they transfer the weight forward quite nicely and I can give the scope a push and the scope tripod wants to fall back on its feet.
Since I use any tripod with the legs collapsed as much as posible so I can view seated, moving the balance point was quite needed for me.
The Bent Bar(TM)helps move the weight forward as well plus it angles the az slo mo control towards your steering hand.
Website?? no too busy with fun stuff to get one up and running, but can email you photos if you care.
In the photo you really can't see the advancing bracket due to the black paint and black background of the speaker.

Thanks Manny, that's a nice overview shot, thanks for posting it. I was hoping for a "quick release" concept using the "foot" on the Megrez, instead of mounting rings.
That mount isn't quite as compact as I would wish either.
I'll go back to pondering things, but thanks for your clarification.

Manny's bracket does get the scope out of the way of the SloMo cable.

Does the bracket allow enough clearance to mount a C6?

Great looking eyepiece tray and telescope holder, Carol!

I also had the priveledge of receiving a "Manny" eyepiece tray.

Hmmm...I think the plexiglass disk on your tray goes on the bottom, least for me it did, as per Manny's instructions.

Anyway, another thanks to the very humble MM!

I didn't have any instructions; but a quick PM to Manny cleared it up. I've since changed it, but the unit is back in the Observatory, so I didn't take an "after" photo.

Having to give credit where credit is due,,,
CN's jay scheuerle is who actually designed the eye piece tray and gave me permission to use the design.
My part of the design is the single point mounting system and then also using Baltic Birch and Maple for some of the other trays that don't have room for eye pieces as well as those that have spaces for e/ps, that is a flat tray with a Maple rim to keep your stuff from falling off.
The flat part in the photo is finish grade sanded Pine for my own use, which is what I use to work the kinks out of any wood part I make,, with exception of the Maple rims, hard to get them in pine so have to use the real thing<G>

Yes I do occasionaly forget to include install directions, 'specially when my CRS flares up which seems to be happening more lately.
I'm not too hard to get a hold of for clarification or help :-)

Hi DVB,
I would have to say yes it does give p l e n t y of room for the C6.
I use a Meade/Wegat Optical 127mm mak and there's lots of room between the mount and the scope.
I also know of someone that had a photo of his C6 on his mount whether it was a Porta or Voyager I don't know.
The bracket moves the scope further inward from the arm on either mount, plus it moves any scope closer to the mounts AZ axis.

Manny,

That "under scope mounting bar" or whatever you're calling it ... does it mount the original dovetail saddle or does the scope bolt directly to it? Carol's great (albeit tilted ) shots show the bar and bar and bolts very well ... but no saddle.

You're really going to need a basic website ... and even if you don't want to do any ecommerce it will give you a little visibility and free you from having to answer all my dopey questions.

on the add on products.

Hi, Manny,

I have an AT Voyager. Your modifications look interesting; I think I'd like to be able to mount the OTA from the bottom instead of the side. How can I find out more information about your modifications? and How could I get them? I am mechanically challenged (in other words a klutz) so need to be able to modify easily. I'll for now, mostly be using the Voyager with my Lunt 60T H alpha B600 solar scope. Any information greatly appreciated.

Speaking of modifications, do you or anyone know of some kind of wheels I could use with the Voyager so as to just wheel it out of my garage. I have trouble lifting anything very heavy and, unfortunately, the Voyager fits into that category. I know JMI has Wheely bars and they might work, but something less expensive would be nice. Also, do the JMI MicroSlew motors for the Voyager work with your mods? Thanks in advance.

Dorothy

Hi Mark,
Yes the dovetail mount saddle bolts to the arm of the new bracket. The place where the saddle gets bolted to can have a number of spacings for different saddles, my own can have either a Vixen or AT mounted on there depending on my mood
With Carol's , she wanted 2 set of holes to mount the shoe to an even out postion and the other that brings the scope further forward, depending on which scope she wanted to have on there, hence the straight out arm then the right turn forward.
I make these in any combination I can think of then if the person that wants something special ,well thats what they get .
What exactly do I call, its a good question as the Porta's version is a Portabracket, I do have some acrynoms but Carol would have to sensor them and I don't want to add to her work load ,,, one of the better ones is "PHAT" pan handle AT, pronounced FAT which is jut the adaptor plate and pan handle.
Another is PHAT RAAT for Pan HandleAT Right AngleAT pronounced Fat Rat, which would be the pan handle then the right angle arm to mount the saddles on.
My own version is a PHAT Black RAAT painted balck and most times people who do get these get the PHAT "Lab" RAAT which would be the white in color.
I could have a website but still would field the same questions asked here and thru any number of PM's and toss in a few emails with photos of the parts I make, you might get what you need, even making stuff that is only a dream in someone's head.<G>

Hi Dorothy,
I have yet to see a good photo of the JMI system from the angle I'd need to know if it would work, but I betcha it would work.
PM sent

Thanks, Manny,

I think I've changed my mind about the JMI Wheeley bars. I've looked at the ScopeBuggy and ScopeRollers. I think either would work with your modifications. I haven't received your PM yet.

I love your "signature" about light. I am going to quote that to a lot of people.

Dorothy
