One cue would be that the PAS brightness adjustment should appear in the Utility menu. Or so I'm told. 99% or more of us do not have the right card, so we're doomed. For many years it was too bright for some folks, it was changed about two years ago to too dim, now, if Goldilocks has the right card she can adjust.

If yours is the bright one, and no polar scope brightness adjustment shows up in the Utility menu, I really think it's quite a senior card in the system. How to tell? Not a clue! The Yahoo! group is much more in tune with the situation, at least compared to we'uns here.

I did get a reply but via the dealer.
I am still waiting on information on a method
to identify the type 2 PCB in an NEQ6 mount.

I did it.
All I had to do was download the latest V3.27,
plug in the hand controller + power supply & follow the instruction manual on page 13.
The polarscope LED now adjusts in brightness.
Thanks everyone for your help.

At last I can get to use the polar scope & see if
I can obtain a really top alignment.

Great to hear this AlPal. So I guess you have the latest board. I take it that the Polar scope adjustment is in the UTILITIES menu labelled something like Polar Scope Illumination?

No - it's in the SETUP menu.
You just scroll down & you find it along with
other items that weren't there before.

How is it labeled alpal? I just upgraded mine and don't see anything obvious in there...Thanks, BrianB.

I think it's labelled "Polar Led brightness" but that's
from memory & I'm not sure.
I am sure however that whatever it is labelled it
is absolutely obvious - that it adjusts the polar LED brightness.

Just updated my NEQ6 from 25 to 27... no LED option of any kind.

Quite a smooth process though. I excepted a lot more difficulties but it took less than a minute and this was with a (prolific) serial to USB converter.

NEQ6 mounts are new and you'd think that they'd have the new circuit board. This is what irks me. Skywathcer is evidently mixing old and new components on their new mounts - Grrr!

I contacted my dealer where I bought my from and asked what can be done.

You can install a potentiometer to the circuit board that sticks out and is accessible from the outside. Anytime manual control of the LED brightness.

Are you sure you scrolled down from the SETUP menu
& NOT the UTILITIES MENU ?

On the NEQ6...

Setup Menu -> Handset settings -> PolarScope LED

Spot on! I scrolled through after my download yesterday and didn't see this even while checking under Handset Settings. I just went over to my Atlas, plugged the hand controller in, powered up the mount and...there it was! Woo Hoo, I was able to adjust the brightness. Thanks for the tip gang, it's nice to be able to control that LED. Clear Skies, BrianB.

All sounds great now.
Apparently the manual will be updated soon to reflect
all the new menus etc.

I am with heq5 upgraded to pro using upgrade kit and do not have the option to control polar scope brightness. Good news is that at least for me i also do not need to adjust it because it is bright just enough to hide every other star except polaris which makes polar alignment very easy.

Glad to hear you got it working alpal. I'm 99% sure the "motor controller" version is the control board people were referring to. Yours is listed as 2.03. Mine is listed as 1.something so it dosn't work...

I think you can buy the latest board & retrofit it.
If not a potentiometer or resistor would be easy to add
in series.
I am an electronics tech/engineer so maybe it's easy for
me & not others.
I am just glad I had the latest board.
I am still really pleased with my NEQ6.
It's great to be able to download & install the latest software
in just a few minutes.
