Well, I've been waiting. Now it seems it's here . . . almost.
Not sure I want to be first but I am in desperate need of a mount for my C11.

Maybe I'll call them in the morning.

It is red when in "night mode".

The modes are night, day, and dawn with colors red, green, and blue respectively.

After seeing the demo, I think my next mount will be a G11. The Losmandy mounts are great but the old Gemini system was complicated to use. This looks so much easier and more robust. If it works as expected I say great job Losmandy.

The old version of Gemini made you scroll through several pages to get what you want, this one, to select M81, you select DSO Objects, Messier List and type in 81. Much easier then scrolling up to the #8 and down to the #1

Well, after bouncing all over the place for the past two months, all the way from an Atlas to an AP900, I just got off the phone with our hosts here.
Ordered the G-11 Gemini 2 with accessories, the ES 100 20mm and the ES 82 30mm.

So, I'm broke!

The waiting on a decision is over . . . the waiting for delivery begins.

They expect the new mounts next week.

Definitely made the best dollar value choice for a mount. The G-11 for its price is pretty hard to beat, especially with the new Gemini System.

The Gemini 2 looks very nice! I've had mine on pre-order for a couple months, and it's nice to know release is getting close.

Of course, that will mean weeks of inclement weather once I actually receive mine. :|

Thanks,

I have no secrets to divulge. Pricing was unknown when I placed my order this morning.

Maybe the same as Gemini 1?

Hey, it COULD be, right?

As far as shipping is concerned, hope the CN discount will more than make up for any cost differential between dealers.

No G2 pricing as of yet except for an estimate of $1,000 - $1,100 from my dealer.

I keep telling the CFO the price is approx. the same as a laptop ...

OPT shows the Gemini 2 servo system for $1595 " the picture doesnt look like the new system though ".
http://www.optcorp.com/productList.aspx
Looks like $1795 for the system with the Maxon motors.
The mounts with the systems factory installed say they have the Gemini 2 and those prices look the same as they were with the older system.
Everything is marked preorder so that leads me to believe the prices are accurate.

I hope the encoder inputs will be usable with a high resolution encoder kit so guiding becomes unnecessary ...
I have the LFE photo, but I'm wrestling on how to place high resolution encoder on the RA shaft ... we speak 800 000 to a 1 000 000 ticks per revolution ...

Looks interesting. My questions would be:

1) how does the display look in really COLD weather. One of the things I really LIKE about the first Gemini was that it was totally unaffected as low as -15F (coldest I've ever imaged)

2) how well does the touch screen accept input, wearing gloves? (see comment on cold above). first Gemini is tactile enough that you can use with gloves ON.

Otherwise, it appears VERY similar to current Gemini in it's "use flow" (which is good IMHO).

Anyone know the "cold" behavior?

According to Yahoo Groups - Gemini II Group will be opened Feb.1. I assume beta users will be allowed to post at that time and I am sure cold performance will be a key topic along with screen input. According to the Losmandy site, there are tactile keys on the back of the unit - classic four button pattern.

I'm not sure whether or not the beta period gag order has expired - what's the situation as far as public reviews are concerned at this time?

Are you able to do a review of Gemini-II for the benefit of CN members as yet?

Hi Skybsd,
The program finally comes to the "full" version.
It also announces some surprises for later ... But I do not know more ...
The screen, when calibrated, is very reactive ... And the program is very intuitive ...
The big plus (for me) is that the program is constantly evolving ...

I was more curious about something like -25C or so?

Glad to hear the display is viewable at -10C, *and* that the touch screen works with gloves!

You would actually go out to view/image at -25° below 0? And I thought you were a sane person! One good thing...the cooler on your QSI wouldn't have to work real hard.

David -25C is -13F.
Celsius and Fahrenheit are equal at -40
It could end up like other HC where you use a heater strip to keep the LED warm enough to work.
