The manual has the pin configurations and I will make a cable, but it would be nice to know ahead of time that that i/f works ok.
From what I can tell ... maybe I'm just looking at it wrong ... the cable pin connections shown in the mount manual are different from what is shown in the online "software upgrade" manual. Both show the same ground connection, but the TX and RX lines are reversed. Can anyone verify this?

Dear Dan, I have made a custom cable myself RJ9 to serial port following the online manual for 8408 upgrading.( google it). It works well and I was able to control the SmartEq using both Stellarium and CDC planetarium software. I do not own the SKywire or Skyfi but I have read somewhere that it didnt work.

I don't know why iOptron doesn't include the cable, but if you didn't know, you can purchase it on their website.

Sky guy I think that the two manuals agree. One shows the plug face on and the other the jack face on.

For you SmartEQ owners, I've posted a thread on another forum, where it was made a 'sticky', don't know if you'll be able to see the images, but the info is still good.

The one feature missing after reading the manual that I really enjoy from the Celestron side and now presumably the Atlas is the ASPA. It's really handy overall but especially when the view of Polaris is blocked.

Your reports sound very promising. I am super curious about this mount. I was looking at a CG-5 or similar to carry a Starblast 4.5 imaging scope with a DSI pro and a 50mm finder/guide scope with a DSI-C. I also have an 8" LX200 on a wedge, but without a more permanent setup, it can be a hassle to lug out and polar align. Think the SmartEQ Pro can handle the SB and DSI's? I'm guessing it's a 7-8 lb payload total?

That was fast, got my hunk of plastic on Tuesday ($40 ground), looks very good but does sound a bit grindish, can't wait to try out, sorry for causing clouds over Ontario!
