If you were posting pictures within your post (aside from the first one), I'm not seeing any.
Reading your text in your long post it sounded like you were trying to embed pictures of each box opening.
Congrats anyway!

I am hosting these pictures on a server in my home. The server is beefy enough, but my bandwidth is being challenged this morning.
The pictures should load eventually.

OMG, I think I just ruined the surprise. Now you can't place it under the tree for me to find in the morning...
I was going to get one of those for myself for Christmas but decided that the paperwork my wife would have me served with was not something I wanted. Oh well...
Congrats on getting a mount that you will likely never outgrow...

I thought I did as well. So I bought myself a Mach 1 for my birthday last June. Since then, it's cost me as much in equivalent gifts and she still brings it up almost daily.
Ever wear a pair of $1k shoes? My wife did... once.
Oh and I get no credit at all for selling some of my other toys to pay for the mount originally.
Sorry for that rant.

Congratulations on your new AP1600 mount. Is the weight manageable by breaking it down into smaller components? What is the heaviest part?

Thanks for the detailed unboxing... really appreciated!
I am now inspired to photo document my new Borg 125SD due Monday or Tuesday. Without reading this post, I would greedily rip everything open like a kid on Christmas morning. Stay tuned in the refractor forum.

Yes. The RA assembly and Dec assembly are easily separated. They connect via a dovetail arrangment with two lock knobs (you can optionally bolt them together). The RA assembly is the heaviest part at 58lb. I don't have the weight of the Dec assembly handy, but it is around 40lb.
My previous mount is a Celestron CGE. That mount does not come apart, and it is 50lb as a single unit. So I've upped the heaviest part of my setup by only 8 lb.
It takes me about 10 minutes to set up my CGE. I don't think that it took me over 30 minutes to set up the AP1600 the first time. I'm guessing that it will take me about 15 minutes (including pier assembly) to set up the AP, once I've done it a couple of times.
I hope that this helps.

How about a side by side with the CGE? I have the CGE and am wondering about the size difference between the two.
Congrats on the new mount. Looks awesome!

I never realized the AP mount CW bar threads in. I assumed it went all the way through as an integral part.
That kind of surprises me because I remember reading here at CN a while ago a 1200GTO owner bashing the heck out of ASA's DDM mounts for the same reason!
That's an awesome setup all the same.

Frozen.kryo request a picture of the AP1600 and the CGE side by side.
Here you go:

I often run my CGE from inside a Kendrick observatory tent. My goal was to get the AP1600 to fit in the tent in a similar spot. To do this, I ordered the shortest field pier that AP sells for this mount. It looks like I got it pretty close.
Oh, and the CGE is for sale. I listed it in the classifieds section here a while ago and also have it on AM. If you are interested in a very nice CGE, please PM me.

My 23 year old daughter just flew to Seattle to visit a friend for a week. Thanks for giving her bad weather.
Congrats on the mount however.

Thanks for the side-by-side pic. It definitely makes the CGE look positively spindly, and the CGE ain't no slouch either.
Looks like you're all set for monster OTA's.

So I hope you relize you are at fault for the snow storm that his us in the PNW last night. With a mount like that, I figure it will be May before the sky clears again. Beautiful mount though. I don't blame you at all. Congratulations.
