It will hold the 9.25 SCT with a vixen dovetail, but you probably will be hitting the load limit, so not much room for adding accessories. The VX mount is best designed for 8 inch max SCT, that way, it gives you more available load to add a DSLR, plus accessories

Celestron is selling the AVX with the 11" OTA!

So? They sold the 11 with the CG5 and it worked just fine as a visual scope.

As was said earlier, unless there is a problem, it's best to leave it alone. This should be fine.

I can personally attest to the fact that the AVX and the CG5 will handle the 11" SCT with out problem for visual with good balance. It really isn't an issue... for visual.

My VX mount was working well yesterday. I would select an object for alignment and it would slew very close to it. Now, it's off by nearly half the sky. Yes, I align after lining up both index marks. Not sure how it could be this inaccurate.

*smack forehead*

Thank you. That's what it was.

Am I correct that the mount cannot remember the date/time once you unplug it from a power source? Or is there a tiny watch-like battery that gives enough juice for that function?

some have real time clock built into the mount, not sure on a VX, check thru your owners manual, glad was an easy fix, Kasey

The hand controller DOES have a battery, but sometimes it forgets to make the time change. I had that happen to me when we went from Daylight Savings to Standard time. I had to change the time again.

Of course, the HC doesn't know when you change locations, so you have to change that too....unless you have a GPS unit plugged in.

The hand controller doesn't have a battery.

The battery is in the mount.

You have to enable the clock in the HC.

It will not change DST status, you have to do that.

That is all...

I'm sure you'll enjoy it Procyon. I very recently upgraded to an AVX from my old Advanced-GT (CG-5) and I am thrilled with the new mount so far for the observing and small amount of imaging I've tried with it so far, and that's even without doing any PEC training yet.

Cheers,
Chris M

And I can attest to the fact that you can do AP through a 9.25 Edge on this mount. Anyone who tells you otherwise either doesn't have one of these, or has a broken one.

Hi everyone,

What kind of plate would be needed to use a camera lens mounted on the VX? I'm seriously considering buying a VX mount for my Canon 500mm f/4.

I have an Arca Swiss plate for the 500mm and I wondered if the VX would take such a plate. I also have the Losmandy Star Lapse gear, my current system, which comes with some plates of its own.

Thanks for any pointers.

Hi, I have this mount with the EdgeHD 8" OTA. I love this scope but had trouble with it the other night; I was doing the alignment and went from a star in the West to Betelgeuse in the SE, and the mount seemed to hit resistance while moving up the sky in declination. The motor was trying to work but the mount was stuck.

I was connected by DC to my car outlet, and it was quite cold out, around -16C.

I'll be testing the mount again tonight inside my home and plugged into AC. I guess if it has trouble pointing upward in declination (to the South only it seems) I'll have to contact Celestron for warranty replacement.

Does this sound familiar at all to anyone?

Cheers

I have a question. How long of an exposure time can the VX mount do without using an autoguider?
