Roland posted today on the AP GTO users group that it will be called the 1100. No word on price yet.

Roland said today that this new mount will have a 100-120lb capacity still TBD and it will weigh 42 lbs (26+16). This is like 10 lbs lighter than the 900 I think?
No it's one pound lighter than the 900GTO. The 900 has a 17 pound DEC and 26 pound RA so they have reduced the DEC by a pound. The quoted total weight of the 900GTO is 54 pounds but includes the 10 pound counterweight shaft. However, how fantastic is it that they were able to reduce any weight but significantly increase the payload capacity by 50%.

Perhaps the AP900/1200 mounts are significantly overbuilt so they are just eating into the conservative spec before? My AP1200 looks and feels very overdesigned.
The (costly to make) setting circles are gone however

Yes, I noticed they said they were gone. While I would rarely ever use them I like the option.

I use them to plan my sessions without powering up the mount and trying to see how far I can image without meridian flip. The circles go great with the clutch.

I am in a quandary. I need a mount. I'd buy the AP1100 in a heartbeat right now. But it's just not available.
While a new AP900 would fit my needs admirably, I want the new one!!
Any comments on the wisdom of being the "first" AP1100 customer? AP will get it right the first time?

The odds of AP getting it right the first time are, in my opinion, quite high.

Given they have to see every single one work and put the PEC values for a three cycle run into it before it ships, there is no real risk of what shows up not working.

AP is one of the only companies I wouldn't mind being an early adopter.

Although the mechanicals may have changed I think that the control box and servo controllers should be the same. In other worse the mount should work great.
Note to moderators: even though I did the ASCOM driver for AP I got very little advance notice of the AP1100, and even the Ap1600 and 3600 mounts before they were announced. AP does not tell me any more than I absolutely need to know... maybe even less! LOL!

When I was ready to get an AP mount, I got on the list for the 1200. When they announced the cancellation of the 1200, they put me on the list for the 1600.
This is probably the best thing that could have ever happened. I got one of the first batch of 1600s. It has thoroughly exceeded my expectations in every way. And it has features, like through the mount cabling, that the 1200 did not have. I had no idea how much I needed this feature until I had it.
If I were in the market for a 900 sized mount right now, I would switch to the 1100 without any hesitation at all. It is shaping up to look like an incredible mount for portable operation.
