Conclusion: even though astro-photography is truly damaging to your wallet, it can, at times, be beneficial to your health!

Good call!

How much would one save if they quit drinking too. Great job and good health to you.

Congrats on quitting I'm over a year and a half without one and I used a similar technique to give me the endurance for the cravings.

Can you believe after all this time there are still certain circumstances that trigger the urge to smoke? Don't ever let your guard down as the battle gets a lot easier but it never truly ends.

Good luck with your mount.

I've been wanting a good mount and decided on the Celestron AVX as I'm just going to use it for my C6 SCT with guide scope and DSLR. Couldn't afford one, though.

But then I had an idea, so on August 24, I quit smoking after almost 30 years. I put my cigarette money in my Paypal account each week and in just a little over two months, I have $608 in there! By Friday of next week, I'll have $750 in there, which puts me in the ballpark!

Jim, That`s Excellent! Congrats..
You`l find that this was one of the best decisions you ever made, everything from breathing to vision will benefit from it. And you`l have a really nice mount to enjoy.

Way to go, Jim.

That's exactly how I got my first scope 14 years ago. I was very proud of that 8" LX200 knowing I would have just blown the money up in smoke.

Indeed. I quit 10 years ago and indeed there are certain circumstances that can still trigger an urge to smoke... actually, oddly, it's only 1 situation: reading or talking about other people trying to quit. I can sit in a cafe with 5 people smoking around me and not be bothered by it at all, but reading this thread triggers a little urge!

In any case, a piece of advice: don't smoke even one. The further you get away from nicotine the easier it gets, and just 1 can easily turn into the full habit again within a few days. 1 = 1000000. Congrats!!!

Congrats on quitting smoking. I smoked for 32 years and was up to 3 packs a day when I quit. I quit over 20 years ago, cold turkey, no patches, etc. I know what you went thru to quit. It took a lot of persistence and effort to quit. Your lungs will thank you.

Good luck on the AVX mount, should serve you well for a long time.

Thanks, everyone for the encouragement and kind words. I ordered my AVX mount TODAY from Astronomics! Now, I'll start all over again and start saving for a CGEM and a good OTA to put on it.

Congratulations Jim! Not only will you be able to enjoy your AVX (and eventually your CGEM and new OTA too) but you'll no doubt be able to enjoy them longer as you will live longer.

Enjoy life (and toys
John

I would also add my hearty congratulations! I've NEVER smoked but have known those that did and the toll it took on their lives.

But I have to ask why you'd want to bring in MORE clouds and rain to the PNW with this purchase? I was hoping for a break, now I'm just gonna get MORE clouds....
