Will the through-the-mount supplied motor cords reach in the side "velcroed" version? I just had another look at the two pics you have shown and it appears that it should work on either side.

I don't know. I will wait till I get the ATS pier and will start assembling everything. For now most of the parts are still in the box.

A-P offers longer cords at extra price, of course.

Note where the bubble level is located at the base. It may be in the way since it sticks above the surface of the base. It looks like the bubble level can be removed.

Paul, does this mean that you will no longer set up with the rest of us unwashed peons at Chiefland?
And what in the world are you planning to put on it?

No I'll still be setting up in the same spot.
As far as what I'm going to put on it, Edge 11, 8" newt, 127 APO, 65 Quad, Lunt solar scope...

quick question for AP owners, do you need an autoguider for your mount?

thanks
mick

I am not sure I understand the question.

I use ASCOM guiding and use top serial port of GTOCP3 box. Some people prefer to use ST4 autoguider port. Either port should work fine for autoguiding.

For those interested to know whether the supplied motor cords are long enough to reach GTOCP3 box if the box was mounted at either side of the fork base, yes it is long enough. See picture.

Yeah, that looks all right for sure. I wish there were a more solid method of affixing it but the velcro should work. Thanks for putting it together and supplying the pics.

i was saying since the A-P has great tracking is there still a need for an autoguider? if i were perfectly polar aligned would i need an autoguider?

It would depend on how long of an exposure you were taking and the focal length of you telescope or lens.

If you add the $7,000 absolute encoders, there is no need for any guiding.

Just curious, does users have to "align" the RAPAS with AP1100 ? With the adapter for Mach1GTO, users have to do some adjustment before using RAPAS.

The mount looks so pretty.

Well I do. I did the first alignment on my 1600 with an unadjusted RAPAS. Pempro indicated I was about 28 minutes off the pole.

As I am now on a pier, and it's VERY cold outside. I have not calibrated my RAPAS yet.
Springtime, maybe.

How does one adjust the RAPAS?

Drift alignment first using conventional method or PEMPro. After the mount is accurately polar aligned, then compare Polaris position in RAPAS with an app software for iPhone, Android or A-P ASCOM V2 driver. If Polaris does not match to the app, then adjust three sets of push-pull screws of RAPAS until Polaris in RAPAS matches to app software.

Not exactly.

With PEM enabled, the mount is capable of sub arc pixel tracking even without the encoders. Even assuming perfect polar alignment, The issue with long duration unguided exposures is that the rate the sky itself moves is not constant due to refraction. You probably also have flexure or other mechanical issues.

What you need to track unguided is a model of the sky that accounts for all of this. If AP ever gets around to shipping APC, the pro version can take many exposures all around the sky and build a model that does just that. It even accounts for non-perfect polar alignment.

With APC, you should be able to go unguided, as long as any mechanical errors are repeatable. Actual flex probably falls into this category. Mirror flop may not, and then you'd still need to guide.
