Here's my 6SE -"Loretta"- right before I broke it down after an epic viewing session for the Venus Transit. Thought you all might enjoy this shot.

Hi Tim,
Nice shot of your set up. Hope all went well with Venus.

I notice that you have the securing clamp knob at the top. This is not the best way as the clamp surfaces are shaped to hold the O.T.A dovetail more securely with the clamp knob at the bottom.

Regatrds. Peter.

Thanks Peter! I usually do have the clamp on the bottom, I didn't even realize I had it set up this way until you mentioned it. I'll have to make sure to keep this in mind in the future.

Here is my C4 during the Venus Transit, with solar finder and filter. A glorius moment for the tiny Mandarin.

Damn. You had crystal clear skies.

Looks perfect. I like the look of your yacht in the background!

Here in the UK, the bad weather started on Sunday (I don't think it has stopped raining since then) and the last forecast I saw said it was due to do this for at least the next 11 days *groan*

Bought a used ASGT CG-5 mount for a hundred bucks. Spent 73 dollars replacing lat. adj. screws, dec motor housing, and counterweight bar. Soldered a jumper to fix bad power switch. Mount 100 percent operational now. Put my NS8SE OTA on it and I really love it. NS mount now my dedicated solar rig. Very happy with this setup.

Congratulations on a very fine set-up, OB !

It's somewhat akin to what I did a couple of years ago, in placing my Nexstar 8i OTA on a Skywatcher HEQ5 Pro mount.

Is the intention now to image from yours ?

Best regards,
Tel

Hopefully! I found out my polar scope is misaligned from the mechanical axis of the scope. Was attempting to get it aligned when mother nature decided to make it rain, hehe.

Hi Matt,

Looks like you could hold a complete star party on your own with that array of equipment !

My word, though, you do look young in those pictures to be soon assuming the responsibilties of parenthood !

Best regards,
Tel

Hahaha. Very funny Tel. Austin loves his own scope. But I think I got him talked into taking over my 8SE one day so I can get rid of the refractor and put it into making my own dob.

So, after almost 20 years observing with my trusty 8" f/6 dobsonian, I've (finally) entered the realm of computerized observing. I was looking for something a bit more portable for quick, week night observing sessions and, after scanning these forums for some time, decided on the 6SE. My dob's Parks optics are superb, so I was skeptical that a cat, let alone a 6", would perform as well, but I have to say that this little scope is impressive! Not quite as bright, but very sharp and better than expected resolution. And no diffraction spikes! I've attached a picture (I think...) which shows my initial mods, those being an Astro Tech 1.25" dielectric diagonal and an Orion 9x50 RAF. I'm still observing with a series of the original Meade Super Plossls, but may soon be entering the wide angle world as well. Anyway, very happy with my new 6SE and hoping for many clear nights!

Thanks for the welcome! I'm really enjoying the new scope. Being an old star hopper, I wanted to test the computer pointing accuracy of the mount, so I picked M13, essentially straight up late in the evening this time of year. Using a 26mm Plossl, the 6SE put it dead center in the field of view. Pretty cool! I then plugged in M82, a target not so obvious (like the mount knows this...). Again, centered it without issue! I'm very much appreciating having a computer drive the scope. Now, there's still a solid place for the dob when I want a little brighter look, but the 6SE is going to get a lot of use. Glad to be part of the dark side!
