Clear at the moment, so I will be sneaking out for a look. I will be there and back before the clouds realize what's happened....

Soft slippers might help Geoff.

Good luck.

Pandemonium will break out while you're away.

Quick let's go off topic posts, let's have the who's telescope design is best debate or perhaps let's not and just settle down for a nice cup of rosie.

Have fun and congratulations

Well I just had the best hour of viewing. Spent most of the time on Saturn, it has just cleared the house enough for me to get a good look at her. (another week and it will be in prime position for me) The rings have opened up and she is as pretty as a picture, it's nights like this that make me happy I bought a scope.....

Glad to hear it Geoff. Saturn is always worth an hour of anyones time.

Nice too to get a hours viewing in before the clocks go forward. Lighter nights mean having to stay up later.

Regards. Peter.

We've had complete white blanket cloud cover on a night for well over a week here in Leeds.

Hows anyone else doing??. Better than me I hope.

Regards. Peter.

No Better than your good self Peter, awoke yesterday to a thick fog, could not see across the road,it still persisted until mid morning when it finally lifted, my poor grand daughter had to walk to school in it, but luckily she was with school friends.

Last night it was rain, heavy cloud and pretty strong gusts, looking at the forecast it looks to be poor for the weekend too, not looking good at all!

Tom.

Strong winds up here now Tom. Gusts of up to 30mph.

Pity, as the sky is clear for the moment. If it ease's down in the next couple or three hours, I might give it a go.

Batten down the hatches Geoff, looks like their heading your way.

Regards. Peter.

They arrived with a vengeance, rain too. Nothing much changes up here, in the summer the rain feels a little warmer and that's about it....

Heading to the dark site tonight and even better we're forecast to have clear skies Saturday, partially cloudy tonight. Between clouds and pollen I've only gotten one hour of observing the last two weeks. Hopefully this will start a trend for the group where we all finally get some observing time in.

We had a rough weather day yesterday & the night prior. Many trees down and many still w/o power.

But at least the rain cleaned the air(pollen & such) and the skies are dark blue!

Should be excellent the next couple of nights and this may be our last dry weekend until Nov.

Hope all have a wonderful night or nights

PS I ended up with 5" of rain over a 24 hour period. But since we are down by 13", this really helped with our brush fires.

Hi John,

its kind of strange to hear from you saying you had some bad nights, it seems you had more than your fair share of good ones in the recent months,LOL. Whats your summers like for astronomy?

Tom.

"Whats your summers like for astronomy?"

Hi Tom,

This will be my first summer, but I feel confident in saying that it will be too hot & too buggy for me. Plus the sun doesn't set until 8:30pm, which means it doesn't get dark until around 9:30pm. And I only can imagine what the thermals coming off the roads, homes, etc will do to our seeing??? I'm assuming that 4am or 5am may be the best times to view. Oh yeah, I almost forgot about our 90% humidity.

My gut tells me that I'll be using the 85mm refractor more than the 8SE.

Good luck for tonight Bruce, you too John. It's good to hear someone is managing to get out and observe.
My skies were clear for long periods last night but the wind was much to strong to allow any viewing.
Sunday night holds the best chance over the next few days.

Regards. Peter.
