(I hasten to add before progressing that Andy has given me permission to publish that which was mostly acceditable to him in this assessment). AVIs taken 5th. Dec.2012. Capture: (Andy) 'Scope: Nexstar 8SE at f/30: (Tal X3 Barlow). Mount: Skywatcher HEQ5 Pro Camera: Philips SP900NC Webcam. Capture Software: SharpCap: 1600 frames at 20fps. Prime Processing: (Andy) Approx. 300 frames stacked in Autostakkert. Wavelet-ed in Registax 6. Final processing : P/Shop CS2. (Tel) Poised with the idea that we might indeed need newer, faster cameras if we were to overcome the Philips slower download and its associated artifacts, I think that we are, at least in this instance, satisfied with this particular one-off result and will therefore not be putting ourselves just yet to the extra expense ! There still seems to be some life in the ol' webcam yet ! Re: [Re: Tel]       #5585193 - 12/23/12 08:12 AM Edit   Reply   Quote Quick Reply   The collaboration between Andy and yourself Tel, on this fine image of Jupiter, does indeed show that the Philips SPC web cam has a great more to offer, i`ve seen some fantastic images of the Moon and planets taken with that web cam that put all my efforts to shame, mostly i discovered that a lot of it is down to position of the planet but equally important, are the conditions of the sky on any given night. Given the best position of a target plus great seeing is what makes the difference of either a good or great image. This image tells me its a good image probably affected by bad seeing on the night of capture, however it has very nice cloud structure as well as the GRS and its current attendant, so nice work guy`s best regards, Tom. Even though a clear night was forecast the clouds were rolling in ferociously and all I could manage was a horribly noisy image. This will have to wait until after Christmas! I was happy that I had my fastest setup time ever. 57 mins from taking all the gear outside to taking 5 min guided test images of M45. Much easier for me now with an obs i must say, just that the weather refuses to play ball at the moment best regards, Tom. I would love to do an observatory but my property just doesn't work for one at all. I will mostly move to a rolling tripod arrangement when I add a higher capacity/heavier mount. Right now I can keep my refractor on the CG5 with the mini guider and carry it all outside in one step. I hope we all get some clear skies soon!
