Craigslist is evil I tell you. There I was nice and happy with my 8SE when for fun I check out the local ads here in Austin for "Celestron". Guess what I find, a Nexstar 11 GPS listed at $800!
I call, make the deal and go to check it out. Since the hand controller wasn't working when I got there I offered them $650 for it, to which they agreed. Once I got it home I found out it was just a loose cable to the controller board, so now I have a very nice, fully functional first generation Nexstar 11 for the princely sum of $650.
Here's a comparison of the two telescopes side by side. Please forgive the mess on the coffee table.

Thanks for the congrats. I'm still a bit dumbfounded by the deal. I was looking for a Nexstar 11 last year and I could never find one for less than $1500-1700 and they were always 'sold' by the time I found out about them.

WOW!! That was a REAL steal, Richard! Methinks the seller was not aware of what he had. But tons of congrats to you!! Now you have a pretty decent grab-n-go with the 8SE and a GREAT observatory (or permanent location) scope with the 11. Of course if you are a youngster and not an OF like me, you can haul the 11 around with you too.
Again CONGRATULATIONS on an amazing purchase!

Other than the hand controller needing the internal cabling reseated, I just had to clean some cobwebs out of the OTA and wipe clean the glass on the lenses. Its a HC 1.2 and a 1.0 MC unit but it runs smoothly and GPS tracks fairly quick.

You bought an 11 inch SCT with GPS for what many of us have invested in a 12" Dob.
Buy a lottery ticket to check if you used up all youir luck.

Have I got this right? Is this the CPC 1100 GPS? If so, I'm even more impressed with the deal! New, that scope goes for $3,000.

Skip, its the model that the CPC replaced. It was about 1/2 to 1/3 of what most of the used Nexstar 11's go for. I was very luck indeed as I got it for less than what I bought my 8SE for last year.

I do own a CPC1100 .. BUT I looked and looked for a used NS11GPS scope for quite a while before I just gave up and wrote that $3000.00 check for a new CPC...
I HONESTY think it is a mechanically better scope then .and optically equal to the newer CPC models . better gears better bearing and no chance of the cord ever getting tangled up around the tripod legs
I'm shaking my head at the price you STOLE that darn thing for..
Plug your HC that you use with your 8Se into the scope and it will work just fine.. No GPS alignment method ..but you will never miss that option anyhow..
WOW for less then a set of so-so tires you got a great scope...
CONGRATULATIONS

Well done on your great buy Richard.
I missed out on a used 11 GPS last week. It was going for a steal by U.K prices. I hesitated to do a bit of research on the scope and someone else snapped it up.
The search for one, or a used CPC1100 goes on.
Regards. Peter.

Nice! Though I for one would just come back disappointed seeing the H/C not working. Now which one do you prefer to take out.

Last night was the first time I had the chance to take the 11 GPS out. It was just the back yard at the house, so with street lights and the moon, there was a decent amount of ambient light. Still, it was amazing on what I could see over the 8SE. I think I'm going to enjoy it quite a bit.

The two scopes are a real nice combination and complement each other rather well (I own an 8i and a CPC1100)
I use the 8i for local star parties because at 35 or so pounds its easy to pick up and travel with The CPC on the other hand would in all honestly never get used if i did not have it pier mounted in my observatory.. its just too heavy for me ..at my age .. to easily lug outside...
Ya did good and for what you paid the purchase was an absolute steal ..
