I have a Stanley case for my scope. It is great for cheap!

However it is bulky and a bear to get the scope in and out.

I couldn't find the foam anywhere, so I wound up using three large packing blankets from HD. Got a nice, well padded, firm fit, and it fits well without removing the finderscope. The finder and the adjustment screws don't even contact the pads or the box, and it's firmly in place. Just had to remove the star diagonal. Left the 2" visual back in place, and with a blanket at each end, it fits snugly in there. Just another option for securing the scope in the case.

I just purchased the Stanley case for my CPC1100 last month. Canadians may find that the case isn't available at Home Depot in Canada. I had to go to the closest one in the U.S. to get mine. It works great. I bought a roll of soft foam at walmart and cut pieces to fit. I leave the pieces loose in the case.

This is what I thought until I saw one at Lowes in Edmonton, but I think it was like $120.

It should be mentioned, as this thread is almost two years old, that this Stanley case is still available at Home Depot stores. I bought one in late September 2011. It works well for a CPC 1100 that I use for outreach. I use an old quilt I had laying around as padding. It is a beast to put in and out of a vehicle, but with some help, ramp, or a strong back it is doable. Just thought I'd keep the thread alive for people looking for this solution. Great protection at a great price.

I bought one of these last year for $60. It was great for transporting the 'scope. I deforked my scope this year. I'm not sure if I'll keep using my Stanley case for those rare times I move my scope or if I'll get something that fits a bit more snug. Works great as a saw table too

Joe

How much was the case when you bought it last month? I have been watching Amart for "cheaper" case so this may be my answer.

Thanks, Brian

I purchased mine in August (2011) at a Home Depot in NY state for around $60.00

I was @ Home Depot picking up a smaller 28" Stanley case for my new AT6RC scope. And saw the BIG ONE! I instantly thought about my big SCT. However, I don't have a CPC11, but rather a C11 OTA that mounts to a GEM. Is this box to big for my C11 or what? I could always section an area inside off with some birch plywood, and use the extra space for other stuff! Would be nice if I get get the CGE mount inside, but that another 60lbs or so. Those that have the box, would you have still bought it for just a OTA alone?

How thick should the foam be for this case? I got this foam before from the Foam Factory when I made a custom case for an 8" LX200 with a Home Depot tote. It came out nice I used 3" Solid Charcoal Firm Foam which was easy to cut with an electronic carving knife. It's hard to tell in the pictures here how snug the CPC 1100 fits in this case.

It fits pretty snuggly, so much so that you need to rotate it a bot to get the side handle down so the lid will close. I use slabs of about half-inch thick foam. Much more than that and you will have a too tight fit.

Aww this one is a no go for me. While it technically fit in the case the feathertouch focuser rubs against the side moving it as the scope went in and the base was also flushed against the the other side leaving no room for any padding. According to Celestron The EdgeHD tube is the same length as the CPC but the overall length seems longer than my NS11 as it's harder to get through the car door. Oh well I'm certainly not going to shell out the bucks for a JMI case. It will just continue riding shotgun next to me.

Well I picked up the case anyway, and promptly spent an additional $200 in materials to upgrade it!

I use two of these cases to store and transport my gear. With minor modifications, the factory foam that comes with a CGEM fits perfectly. My C9.25 also is a great fit in case #2, using the factory foam. A really handy feature is the lift-out tray that comes with the case. Since I've got two cases, both trays go into the scope case, with peripherals loaded. There 's plenty of space for other stuff in the areas around the scope too. The only issue is that one needs a issue with these cases is that one needs a fairly big vehicle to fit them both in. Otherwise, great product for this purpose.

How do you get the scope - 56lbs of it - out of the box other than bend down and heave it out? I suppose that's the only way..... ?

I always place it in so that the handle is up. I also have top and bottom rails on my CPC1100 for counterweight system and piggybacking a refractor, so they are handy for lifting. And I always position the case and triod so that I only have to turn 180 degrees to place the OTA assembly on top, with no steps in between.

Anyone got some pictures of the CPC1100 in the case please? There is one on the site but wanted to see from a few angles.......

Steve

Can anyone tell me the weight of the Stanley ProMobile Job Chest? I ask because of the need to be able to lift it, and the CPC1100 into the back of my car. Just seeing if it's doable on my own. I'm guessing it's about another 5kg, but can anyone tell me? The Stanley website only gives internal dimensions, and here in the UK the only way I can get it is through the internet, so I don't have the opportunity to try it out.

Many thanks.

Alistair search ebay.co.uk - most places will let you go and have a look first. That's what I am going to do.

Without actuallty weighing it I would say that is about right -- perhaps 10-12 pounds. I can hoist mine with CPC1100 inside into the back of my SUV alone, though it is a bit of a load.
