Jeff,
I've got to figure out a way to get more than 2 or 3 good pictures in a row to be able to stack them. This was 1 of about 30 I took that night - with the intention of stacking them, but all the rest were "sub par". Still working out the right way to use the camera with the scope. Will probably give up on that and go buy a good web cam...

Hum.. I have an Olympus 4040 and excited about using it in my new GPs 8. I have used it in the 5 inch NS. Using eyepiece projection - what accessories did you need to hook that all up? I am getting ready to buy lots of camera gear for my scope (I have the cameras).

Camera - Minolta Dimage A1 (digital). Set to manual with manual focus, 10 second shot with f2.8, ISO 100.
Connected to a 40 mm Tele Vue plossl eyepiece through a Tele Vue adapter.
NexStar 11 GPS.
I need to figure out the 2 second delay to help eliminate the shake for next time. I was actually pretty surprised the camera did so well considering the small CCD that is prone to camera noise.
Anyway, here it is. Resized and cropped, but otherwise not altered.

Hi Jeff
That looks like an 80GT strapped ontop of your scope; where did you find the mount rings and bar?

Hi Mark,
The rings and dovetail are both Losmandy (dovetail is DC-11 and the rings are DR-108). I no longer have the ST-80 as I now have a Megrez 80 which is also likely to eventually be replaced with a Borg scope.
Cheers, Jeff

Hi Jeff
Thanks again. Were you happy with the performance of the ST80 or would you recommend something else?

The ST-80 is a great scope for the money. I actually got mine as part of a NexStar80GT package. I still have the mount and use it from time to time with the Megrez. The ST-80 does have drawbacks which is why I upgraded but that is not a knock on it...as I said, it's a great scope for the money.
Clear skies, Jeff

WOW Your photos are GREAT I just started this hobby, My husband and I are not too familar with much on this. I bought over the weekend a Celstron 80 GTL , what scope do you have? Also I live in NYC which *bleep* for skywatching as it is so lit up around here with street lights and stuff. I want to start this hobby, I went to Barnes and Noble and bought about 10 books, what camera is the best for this Thank You :-)

You should definitely get new Meade's Deep sky imager. You can't get better then that for the price and possibilities.
I just get back from cross coutry road trip and didn't get clear skies till my way back in New Mexico. So whenI say clear skies! I really mean it! Good luck with this great hobby

It's actually a better set up now. Replace the Celestron wedge with an APT wedge and the ST-80 with a Megrez 80 (although that is going to be swapped again soon).
Cheers, Jeff

Jeff Is that a Hyper Star attached to the Celestron? Any comments/thoughts on it? I'm considering buying one and would sure appreciate your review of it.

I like it close, like that. However, it appears that the focus/contrast is giving you white spots. You may want to go for better original focus and less processing. It's hard, no?

Last night during the bright moon I decided to take on the endeavor of astrophotography with the Canon 20D and the CPC800.
The hardware and software is as follows
Celestron CPC800
Hirsch F/6.3 Focal Reducer Corrector
Un-Modified Canon EOS 20D
AirCable Bluetooth Serial Control
MACBOOK
Starry Nights
Nebulosity
Post photography software was Nebulosity and Picasa
(I used Picasa because for now, until I take better photos, there is little post processing can do for a blurry photo.
Sirius A and B. Post processing using a filter brought out Sirius B
Orion Nebula
This is a stack of 4 images. 5 seconds each.
Galaxy M82
A stack of 4 images. 4/5/10 second durations
A B&W rendition of last nights moon
The Beehive Cluster
This is also a stack of multiple images.
As you can see I have much to learn about my equipment, the sky, the environment and software to develop more skill and better photos.
Let the fun begin

Ignore the previous Orion above. I learned to focus
After Learning even more about Nebulosity...
Compare a single Raw image to Stacked and post processing
 Orion Nebula 1 image @ 15 seconds
9 Images stacked with some post processing. It could get much better as I learn more.

First light with my new CPC 800 and my first attempt at astrophotography. Here is Jupiter, taken afocally with a Nikon D40, with an 18-55mm lens attached to a 15mm EP with a ScopeTronix Digi-T adapter. 1/8 shutter speed, single shot, an very little post-processing with Photoshop CS2.

Took another one last night of Jupiter at a wider view to show off the moons of Jupiter. One of these days the clouds will go away so I can see something other than Jupiter and the Moon with our new CPC!!!
