Unless something breaks soon I may be slow to respond. Getting ready to take off for the dark dark high rockies for the summer.
Gonna be in a very isolated area...no cell phone at the site, and very limited internet...nearest town 65 miles.
Gonna get to participate in the parks astronomy outreach program with some very knowlegable folks, so am really excited.
Gonna be a great summer if I can just afford gas to get us and the camper there.

Thanks guys, there are a couple of things that have come up and are going on behind the scenes that have delayed further development of the network right now. We are hoping to have more information, etc. inf a few weeks after the other projects are completed. Thanks for your patience!

I have been doing astronomy outreach off and on since 2000...and continue to do so as my schedule and finances allow. As astronomy outreach people, we are on the forefront of educating and inspiring the public about astronomy and space exploration.

Well in a way we do-- The Texas Astronomical Society of Dallas-- TAS of Oklahoma has a very intensive outreach program with over 8000 man-hours of volunteer work last year. We also have a great relationship with 3 Rivers Foundation where many of our members volunteer for outreach at this "state of the art" Astronomy campus.
Our members also assist at the Copper Breaks State Park "star walk" outreach events and hold weekly star parties in and around the Dallas metro-plex.

Many of our members also volunteer their time at the Texas Star Party each year, and also post frequently on the CN web site.
Tell us all about you plan. I am sure we can help out with outreach.

Outreach has been my main purpose for years and is behind the more that 30 public events we do in the greater Salt Lake city area. In addition we do outreach at schools and national parks including the just completed 4 day Bryce Canyon star fest.
I'm looking forward to what this forum can develop into.

There has been a slight delay in getting all the details ironed out but we have a plan in place now and will start acting on that plan shortly.
Our goals are to get outreach materials out to those doing it, have a central place to communicate events, ideas, etc. and recognize those that go above and beyond. Between this forum and the Astronomy Outreach Network website, we hope to accomplish that and more. Things have just taken a little longer to all come together....

Jason,
The South Plains Astronomy Club in Lubbock should be able to participate at some level. We also have a member, the Club President, who volunteers a lot of his time with Three Rivers as well (Crowell, TX being somewhat between Lubbock and Ft. Worth).
I will forward this link to some of our more active members to give them a heads up. I think the astronomy world can offer a big "hurray!" to Astronomics for sponsoring CloudyNights and this even more active outreach proposal, as it develops. Whatever the details, anything that coordinates astronomical outreach is a great idea. Sure hope S&T and Astronomy magazines are put into the mix, too. The more people who can be touched, the better. Hats off to Astronomics and all those involved in this endeavor, and I hope we CN members can rise to the occassion and help make this a success.
