Here is a quick sketch I did before high clouds and the moisture level started to rise. Not the best, but it does give an idea of the size and shape. Did this with the 18" and a 14mm Pentax XL.

I’ve improved the graphics on both my comets and asteroids webpages for near-Earth objects (NEO). The overhead views from above the ecliptic plane now show the orbits colorized. This is to make it clearer when a minor body is “above” (north) or “below” (south) the ecliptic plane. Some of the bodies have orbits highly inclined to the ecliptic and the relationship between the two orbital planes needed to be made more obvious.
I hope you find the diagrams useful. They can be seen by going to my comets or asteroids webpages after clicking www.CurtRenz.com/astronomical or going directly to www.CurtRenz.com/comets or www.CurtRenz.com/asteroids
Wrong Curt. South is above the ecliptic plane. Just because a bunch of you decided to migrate downwards out of Africa aeons ago, it doesn't give you the right to change the natural orientation of things. Please rotate your diagrams 180 degrees.
Cheers -
Rob

Nice image of the comet. Thanks for posting. Weather here is back to cloud / rain so no chance on updating from here.

The transparency and seeing were both very bad here last night too. I scanned the area repeatedly where the comet should have been with the ASH 17" f/15 classical Cassegrain at 162x and its 5" f/5 finder scope at 58x and simply couldn't locate it.

I could just barely identify it; went back one hour later and could not see it at all. Weather forecast for tonight is clear but poor transparency (again).

I just saw it. It is only 8pm est but I wanted to jump on the opportunity. The scope isnt even cooled down yet.
Its pretty dim. maybe 13ish. I am using my 17.5" newt. I could detect a very small fan tail much like "The Planetman" sketch above.

Also viewed it last night in my TEC 140, visually...estimated magnitude of 11 to 11.5 but I am poor at these estimations.

I haven't done comet mag estimating before, but I just brought up Stellarium and compared it against my video. I'm not sure how reliable Stellarium's Mag estimates are, but it looks to me to be closer to mag 10 or slightly brighter. You can check against my video by setting Stellarium's field of view to be Equatorial, Date of 1/6 time, 18:20 field of view to be .7 degrees. You can now see the star field matches the video quite closely. Then just click on surrounding stars which appear to be similar to the comet. Kind of fun, really.
