Not the best, but it does give an idea of the size and shape. Did this with the 18" and a 14mm Pentax XL. The overhead views from above the ecliptic plane now show the orbits colorized. This is to make it clearer when a minor body is “above” (north) or “below” (south) the ecliptic plane. Some of the bodies have orbits highly inclined to the ecliptic and the relationship between the two orbital planes needed to be made more obvious. I hope you find the diagrams useful. They can be seen by going to my comets or asteroids webpages after clicking www.CurtRenz.com/astronomical or going directly to www.CurtRenz.com/comets or www.CurtRenz.com/asteroids Wrong Curt. South is above the ecliptic plane. Just because a bunch of you decided to migrate downwards out of Africa aeons ago, it doesn't give you the right to change the natural orientation of things. Please rotate your diagrams 180 degrees. I scanned the area repeatedly where the comet should have been with the ASH 17" f/15 classical Cassegrain at 162x and its 5" f/5 finder scope at 58x and simply couldn't locate it. I could detect a very small fan tail much like "The Planetman" sketch above. I'm not sure how reliable Stellarium's Mag estimates are, but it looks to me to be closer to mag 10 or slightly brighter. You can check against my video by setting Stellarium's field of view to be Equatorial, Date of 1/6 time, 18:20 field of view to be .7 degrees. You can now see the star field matches the video quite closely. Then just click on surrounding stars which appear to be similar to the comet. Kind of fun, really.
