I like the smell of my sonotube scopes. Smell is a powerful jogger of memory. Many fun nights and that smell seem to go together. Astronomy isn't just visual in the end. Can't wait for the scratch and sniff eyepieces!Hertzsprung-Russel--- Grape to strawberry or maybe even chocolate if you have an observatory size scope!

I had an Orion XT8 in 2000 and I loved the smell of the tube! My XT8i doesn't smell quite the same but my Star blast 4.5 does and I love reliving the memories of my first dob.
I also like the smell of the XW's and the Baader Zoom though I don't know how much of it is coming from the eyepiece or the pluck foam they reside in most of the time.

Some enterprising astronomer should come out with a line of bakelite and sonotube air fresheners for vehicles and such.

+1 for the Meade Research Grades. Their OTA's have a distinctive smell which I've always associated with observing. That smell puts me in a happy state...

The 2" Clicklock does, but not the 1.25". I guess it must be the rubber grip, which the smaller version lacks.
The 2" smell really is quite bad - I wonder if one could get rid of it be removing the rubber gip, and throughly claning it with water and detergent?

Same problem here with my 3 year old Z10
But good news!...That new smell can be brought back by flocking your scope with new velvet. Plus you help the OTA. Flocking my scope cut down on the spider vane spikes by about 70%...and it smelled fabulous.
Smell ya later!
