As others have mentioned, you will get a blue halo around very bright stars

I recently acquired an AT 111 EDT. I am amazed by the views. I cannot see any CA on anything - the moon, planets Vega. I have one eyepiece when used on the moon produces an extremely faint blue fringe - no other eyepieces do the same. I have recently seen the Great Red Spot better in the 111 than in any telescope and I have owned an SCT, Mak-Newt and have a 12.5 inch Dob. The 111, like the WO 110 FLT, is a Thomas Back design. I believe they are the exact same lens. Does anyone know what glass is in the 111? Is it FPL-51 and 53 or just one of 51 or 53?

I understood it to be a FPL-51 Triplet.

Some shots with my AT111. I have been very happy with mine.

The lenses of the 111 and the 110 are actually different.

Is there a field flattener that works well with the 111?

Thanks! David

Well, I was going to shoot some stuff with my Megrez tonight, but there was two things stopping me: Heat waves and Mosquitoes. Not a good combination for standing outside. But at least I got about 15 minutes with the binoviewer and a few different mags with Jupiter. Looked pretty good except for the wavy atmosphere.

I tried a Proxima zoom, an Orion Epic 5.1mm, and a few different sets in the binoviewer and can't say that I saw any CA. Even with the cruddy atmosphere Jupiter looked perfect.

Mike, can you tell us about the AT 111 design versus the WO 110 triplet?

Not really as I have no access to the WO design. What I can tell you is WO paid for a design, so Tom would not use the same design in a different scope. Plus Tom said it was different.

Mike

I can only fantasize what the WO 98mm fpl-53 triplet is gonna be like to look through.
