I have one of these and it is APOchromatic on any object fainter than Mag 2.5 with the Baader Semi-APO filter. Yes, I said APO. Great optics!

Well Mr Cotts, and i though i was the only one who saw the bright stars with no noticeable blueish yellow, no word of a lie Vega and Arcturus were just clean all around,
that's my story and im sticking to it...

Ed Ting gives quite a favorable review of this scope.

Here is my version.
It's a an Antares 152 F-6.5, not as short a focal length as yours but still gives great wide field views.

Are you really saying you could see no chromatic aberration surrounding Vega and Arcturus using the CT 152mm F5.9 ?!

I'm actually thinking long and hard about this scope or te astrotelescopes version which is te same scope. I currently have the fur inch f/11 astrotelescopes Would use this for quick dso observing. The four inch s too small and the Tak six inch apo is too heavy for my Skyview Pro mount. I did have the Antares and miss it.

I'm wondering what those issues are John

Out of curiousity I tested a sample of this scope out a few weeks back since there's been so much fuss and press about it on the net and discovered a very big problem related to the optics and the cell in particular that holds the glass in place on the sample I had access to. The colder it got the worse the problem got which became more pronounced over the night as the temperature kept going down. Not good...

Since i've heard such great things about these scopes I was a bit shocked to say the least what I saw at high power at the ep on bright stars on that cold night.

Just like everything else there's duds out there....this one was for sure..at least in regards to the cell/optics part from my experience with owning and star testing countless scopes over the years.

I'm interested to hear what you encountered on your CT 152 f/5.9 sample...

I just got back inside after an observing run with the new scope. I have a LOT to write up and it will take a while and needs to be in another thread. My issues were many. You name it. I had it...cosmetic, assembly, mechanical, and collimation issues. You just won't believe what I found when I inspected this OTA. Someone must have been half drunk when they assembled and packed my scope . I'll have to get it all posted tomorrow. I'm just too tired right now and it's been a long day...John

I bought an AT152 last Spring and used it all last Summer on my CGE mount instead of my C11. The only reason I put the C11 back on the mount is that I felt guilty for not using it. The AT152 is an amazingly overbuilt scope for the money. Correction of the lens is very good, perhaps even excellent. The first night I used it, I split Porrima easily. All the famous close doubles look very nice and are easily split. When looking at the Moon the CA is there for sure but I grew up with achromats so I have to say I am just used to it. I did notice on very close up work on double stars brighter than perhaps 2nd magnitude there is some color there that bleeds away from the airy disc. Still not too bad unless you know otherwise.

I have seen some beautiful views of Jupiter and Saturn with the AT152. I just purchased a nice Losmandy GM8 mount to use with this OTA. Old school cool! The GM8 is very well built and up to the task of the 25 pound OTA. No GoTo but hey, that is the way I grew up, using binos and star charts to find my way around. It will be like reliving the past and in this case it will be a good thing!

The below diagram is handy to refer to.
152mm at F5.9 does give you CA - no matter which way you look at it. How much is acceptable is a personal choice.

Some more observations on this nice OTA...

Yes, I did encounter a couple issues but I am a DYA type person so really didn't have much problem. When I received the OTA on UPS the lock screw for the 1 1/4" adapter was broken off. I used a "worm" to wiggle it out. It is a little tool I made for extracting small screws. Basically it is a bent needle that I put pressure on the edges of the screw to rotate it out. No problem then, just by a stainless version and put a plastic knob on it.

The scope was in OK collimation but I did need to re-collimate the optics under starlight to get the most out of it. I have done that with every new scope I ever bought that was adjustable so again, I didn't see this as a big deal. At least it is adjustable!

The scope is way too heavy to use effectively on anything but an Atlas EQ6G, Losmandy GM8 or G11, Celestron CGE or CGEM mount. Anything similar of other manufacture of course!

I had no issues with the focuser though others have reported notchy or noisy rotation. A little lube from a chap-stick in the right spot did wonders.

I have not used the OTA yet with a minus V or semi-APO filter. I did order a Baader Semi-APO filter but have not tried it just yet and haven't really felt the need to.

Like any Chinese import these probably have some variability from sample to sample but I think I would categorize mine as typical for what you receive when you don't work for a magazine who borrows one for a review. In other words you get the run of the mill and must be prepared to deal with a few minor issues. If you are then you will be treated to a pretty nice scope for the money.
