Hi Doug,

Thought that you might enjoy seeing the Traveler on top of its Astro Physics Starfire 178 big bro?

Indeed Joel! Wow, I'm speechless - my AP 140 EDF might work as a finder on that bad boy. Thanks for posting.

Thanks again Doug,
Now if only the weather would clear we could both put them to good use?

By the way how do you like the views through the AP140? Have you compared the views to the AP130GT or AP160/155 etc.? Just curious.

Here is my Televue 85 on a Vixen GP mount with Vixen SkySensor 2000. This set up is a lot of fun. I also use theTelevue Tele-Pod Head with a Manfrotto tripod for quick grab & go.

Unfortunately, I have not had the pleasure of comparing to the 130GT or the 160. My AP140EDF did replace a TOA130, however, that had to be sacrificed for funds after I got the call from AP offering me the 140. I never had them in hand at the same time, however, so it is rather meaningless to draw much of a conclusion. Suffice it to say, I do think the AP140 had the edge in brightness and resolution (not surprisingly, but subtle) but I'm hard pressed to say there was much of a difference visually otherwise (contrast, snap focus, sharpness, color, etc). I don't regret selling the TOA to get the AP but I certainly would have been thrilled to still own it if the 140 wasn't in the picture!

I put my 85 on a DiscMount-4 with Sky Commander-- I agree that these types of set-ups are fun. Also use a Manfrotto for G&G. Nice photo!

Out observing with my son a few nights ago with a great little Astro-Tech 66ED. We both had a lot of fun with it.

Not to my knowledge. The only place I could find TAL was APM in Germany.

You will like the looks of this then. It's a TAL Apolar 125 which I had for a short while to try out a couple of years back:

That TAL125R is attractive but, from the spec it looks like a ~f/9 achromat.
There will be CA.

Yes, sir! TAL telescopes, eyepieces and other accessories are sold from an authorized TAL reseller in Michigan. The website is: www.talteleoptics.com

I have a TAL-100RS with multiple TAL eyepieces, and have been amazed and very satisfied with their performance.

Cheers,
Mapk
