on ebay..there is a
Astrophysics 6 f12 Superplanetary refractor on Losmandy Celestron G11 mount for $2000 free shipping . to good to be true ????? yes it is

this is the same pictures and wording that hands on optic used to sell
the same scope last month for $5000 . it went to a guy in the windy city

i contacted gary at hands on optic and he said it was a scam

it already has about 25 bids . watch out

Good catch. I remember that ad.

Looks like a hijacked account and instructions to contact a g-mail address is listed on the ad rather than going through e-Bay's message system which is a tell tale sign of a scam.

I emailed this eBay seller, Sergi Toia, about OTA length and weight, G11 working condition etc. He replied that he doesnt know much about equipments and description in ebay is accurate. He offers 30 days inspection and buyer can send back if does not like or for any reasons. But using other seller' photos and items price USD2000 including express shipping to Singapore are very doubtful. Handson optics' shipping charges for the same items to Singapore is USD1080!

There is an ad here on CN for a Traveler that doesn't look right to me. It was on AstroMart also but disappeared quickly. Does anyone know more about it?

Take another look at this ad and the AP 6" F12 on a G11 that the guy from Chicago bought from Hands on. They aren't the same vintage G11 and the Ebay scope to my eye looks more like an F9 than F12. I just emailed the the Ebay seller in Meridian Idaho which is about two hours driving for me.

If it is for real I will go over and take a look. If no reply or the seller won't let me drive over and take a look then scam revealed.

And the guy listing it just joined CN and has no posts. I guess anything is possible but that is a big red flag.

Yes, I contacted the seller who had the name of "Hill Coutry Gifts" or something similar. The name also gave the impression that the business was in Texas, and I am in the Hill Country.

I asked about coming to see the scope, and the seller said that he was in London and that the scope was in storage.

Had scam written all over it.

Another one popped up on ebay, like a virus. Hard to believe people are bidding on it, if those are real bidders and not part of the scam.

There's only so much you can do, just be careful.

How would you know if they are "real" bidders? I always check the feedback which is usually a give away but not always.

It has appeared on the UK arm of ebay now, seems you can buy it all in one go for £1200.

Again appears to have hi-jacked someones account.
Same description as the Hands On one.
Details of the advert wording has a few loose ends, seems he is in the UK and the US.
Last bid was 0.99p next step was to be £1.04.
Is an AP Super Planetary worthy £1.04 (Say $1.50) ?

There are several other scopes being "offered" with nearly the exact wording and instructions to contact a gmail address before bidding.I reported ahalf-dozen so far. Ebay depends on users reporting questionable ads.No way could ebay have enough people knowledgable about all items to stop the scammers.

CAVEAT EMPTOR!!!

Let the buyer beware !!

true. no more deals to be had on ebay.

i got my C9.25 off ebay for $600 though. 3 years ago. best deal i got. even today you'd be hard pressed to find a 9.25 on the mart or here on CN for that price.

that was 3 years ago though. i still check ebay every now and then but no more such bargains to be had.
