Hello
I saw this and almost bought it...but I dont need it. D&G makes the best achromat.(Please dont start a flame war over my opinion) Instant classics. These scopes are hand made with love and attention to detail. Look at the machining on the lens cell. This appears to be an older model by the focuser.
I used to have a 6" f/12 D&G.

Yeh what an amazing deal, includes the rings/plate and finder, AND shipping (!), for the price of a new 31T5 Nagler. This for a scope that ordered new, takes YEARS to get.

Wow.. Please someone buy it before I do, I am so, so tempted by this.
But, it would not be wise considering my present finances! I would need a new mount, and a dewshield, and a case... That, and I recently added the Celestron 102GT to my stable as my 'Big Frac' and told myself that that's it, no more buying scopes for at least a year! (eyepieces though, that's a different story heheh)
Owning a D&G 5" or 6" is on 'my bucket list!'
(So in summation whoever gets this will be a very proud new pappy, of this there cannot be a doubt. Best of luck! )

You can always build a Richard berry Alt/Az mount for it. Hard to beat the price on this one....

Not helping! It still hasn't been marked as sold or pending..
I'm just going to assume that 5 people have already tried to claim it, and it is essentially spoken for.
I CAN'T spend any more money I just CAN'T! Someone buy it and put me out of my misery, please!
A classic, All-American D&G achromat... This is the most painful evening in recent memory, letting a dream like this go. I'm going to kick myself, but I HAVE to abstain from putting in my offer to buy! I wish the best skies to the purchaser though

Can someone answer me this...I have a C80SS 80mm F/5 achromat. This corresponds to a 1.6 CA ratio. At around 100x a planetary image begins to loose contrast and detail due to the chromatic blur. If made to the same quality, will the 8" F/12, with a similar CA ratio of 1.5 begin to loose contrast at the same basic point in magnification (~100x), or can it go higher as per what its aperture may allow? If I understand CA correctly, like CA focal ratio scopes should breakdown at the same magnification if made to the same level of quality regardless of aperture...no? Incidentily, I use a colored filter to go above 100x and would do the same with the larger D & G or even go to the minus violet filter, but I was wondering if I could go higher than ~100x before i have to do so. I have no experience with the larger achromats...I wish I did. The D & G 8" is calling to me like a Siren's song!

Like a lost puppy these things always tug at my heartstrings. Then I realized the mounting it would require and my rotator cuff started to ache again ...
Someone is going to get a great deal on this scope.

Wow! That is one heckofa deal! I'm not selling my D&G 5" f/12 but if I was it would be for around $2K.
The last time I used it with my binoviewer the Moon was just spectacular.

I used to have the f/15 version of the 5" and it did just fine on a CGE weighing about 15lbs, a large fraction of which was the A-P focuser. I suspect the f/12 version wouldn't do bad on the Atlas/CGEM or equivalent.

I have my eyes on a mint condition 6" F/12 D&G here in the UK. The cost would be around $2,300 though which seemed a lot until I read about how long the waiting list really is for these scopes and how few there are this side of the pond.
Hearing these comments on the brand is doing nothing but increasing my interest though

Congratulations! Do please post some pictures after you get this gem set up! Why do classic refractors have such a heart-string tugging effect?
