1) awesome scope Joe
2) How deep is that threaded portion between the lens engraving ring and the glass? It looks gigantic. I realize there is huge perspective distortion in the pic. Would love to see more pics of this lens from different angles.

Nice, I have to admit to a little envy and went to the AP site to see how much it weighed compared to 155. 42lbs or about 20lbs more!
Well that took the wind out of my sails as I don't have an observatory.
6" is about the limit for me to transport a scope plus everything
else.
Many nice nights with your new tube.

Ross

A 7" F/8 should be a killer on wide field visual and AP. Mike

Mike,
Here is another angle of the front of the lens. It looks to be about 2 inches deep.

Steve,
The time from deposit to delivery was about 6 and a half months.

Didn't you have to wait many years on the notification list?

For the 175, there were many varying wait times. At NEAF 2012, there were a few that got on the list, along with those on the old 180 list from as long ago as 14 years. Then there were 11 lottery winners of which a few were and had been on the 155 list for quite a few years. The remaining 5 scopes were offered to the 155 list folks and the last I heard was that list was dated from 1999.

I was on the old list from the Mid Ninties I really did not expect Roland to do anything with the extra Glass he had squireled away. But glad he did. With the newer coatings used on the 175 deep sky objects present a really nice appearance and the planets of course in good seeing are simply fantastic. BTW Joe what is the SN on your lense.

I got on the large refractor list in 1996. I foolishly passed up an open spot on the 180 f7 production run, never expected AP to make a 7" again.

Another Sears 6339-A. This one is in excellent shape with all of the accessories. Did a bit of lunar viewing last night with this Sears scope, an Optica b/c 76/1200 and a Celestron ED100. Both 76mm scopes gave views that were every bit as good as the ED100. I was using the same eyepieces on all of the scopes (some .965 Antares Plossls which work very, very well at f/16).
