Here is a preview of what I've decided to do in times of bad weather. Since I find the animations / time lapse on a subject like the sun, is the best formulas to describe few phenomena, I decideded to tell you how an active region evolve in its journey across the solar disk. I promised myself to assemble an animation of the most impressive spots that offers us the Sun.
I'm not allowed by the nature to personally photograph the sun for 24 hours on 24 so I used data from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory collecting all the photos they made at intervals of 10 minutes and I aligned and assembled to ensure that the camera is centered on the same active region by making the transformation more evident.
This first experiment was done on the NOAA 1459 that I photographed last month, and will be followed by the 1450 where can be seen the birth of the sunspot. Among the candidates there is certainly also the NOAA 1476 that I managed to shoot only once due to bad weather but that is giving the show. I hope you enjoy it and you will follow the next videos.
PS - In the month's data I downloaded the HMI camera that I followed has had a couple of moments of maintenance with a large hole of few hours, this is noted with a small jump in the animation, I hope the next will be exempt.

As I promised I realized the animation for the NOAA 1476. Same specs of the first one, about 10 days real time, with images at 10 minutes time-lapse. Unfortunately the YouTube compression is heavy, my original movies are perfect with no artifacts.
If you need the animations for didactic/informative purpose, let me know, I could give a better version.

I used data from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, from HMI instrument in the continuum wavelight. This time there were no instrument shutdown, but in the new animation I'm working on there are several data holes and I will need to find a solution. I postponed the timelapse with different wavelights animations do to the lot more works I need for all the process.

I finally decided to publish tha animation about the birth of a sunspost. I admit I'm not totaly satisfied with it, however it is already a good point to start where can be seen the confrontation between the different wavelights. The work to build it was very long (like three animation plus some extras ) but it was a good experience and I could write a first workflow for possible future sunspots.
I used the SDO data of the AIA and HMI teams to make the time-lapse of the active region NOAA 1460 during a period of about 6-7 days. I hope you will like it.
Below you can see a frame of the original movie, a little different from what you see on Youtube.
Youtube - Vimeo (better quality)
If you need the video at better quality for didactic/informative purpose, let me know, I will share on dropbox. If you don't have an account please make one with my referrer, atleast I gain few MB for the new videos.

The more time consuming is the start period with different tests to find a valid workflow with codec/effects, that take few days. Then for each wavelight animation I need atleast a couple of hours to collect and organize the data, an other couple hours to allign and follow the active region during the several days of capture and an hour to assemble and code the final video. This time i played/built few effects so I needed a couple of hours of extra time for the final step where i joined the different animations on several layers to find a good presentation.

After few months of stop I'm here to publish a new animation about the evolution of the massive sunspot that appeared in the month of March 2012, the active region NOAA 1429 in the continuum wavelight, as seen by NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory (SDO). Unfotunately the satellite's instruments had few stop for maintenance so I had to join data from different sources to fill the gaps, but it was impossible to reach the same fluidity.
Howevr with this movies you can understand how he sunspot changed during 10 days; I used about 1000 images captured with time lapse of 10-15 minutes.
If you would like to see a particular big sunspot evolution, let me know the NOAA code and date, i will try to make it.
