I can't believe Woodland Hills Camera and Telescope actually had one in stock! This will be my first dedicated solar scope. I plan on mounting it on a photo tripod, Vixen Porta Mount, and CG-4. Besides the accessories it comes with, anything else I should purchase for it? What is everyone using as a carrying case for these, the box it comes with or something more robust?

Congrats on the purchase. I have a PST that came packed in a form fitting foam lined box, the foam packing fits just right in a large toolbox I got from Home Depot. If yours comes in a foam block you might be able to find a toolbox to fit.

Also pick up a Lunt zoom eyepiece if you haven't already done so. The Lunt zoom is the best of the less expensive zooms.

Harbor Freight makes a perfect-sized case for about $20. The shipping foam fits nicely.
BTW it's a real joy to use this scope on the Porta Mount. I also like using my ES 6.7mm 82* EP. Full disc with a little mor mag than the stock 10mm. Enjoy your new scope!

It wouldn't happen to be this case, would it, Eric? http://www.harborfreight.com/18-x-13-x-6-aluminum-case-69315.html
I'm really tempted by the Lunt Zoom eyepiece. I have Naglers and TV plossls that I plan on using with it, but it would be nice to only fiddle with a single eyepiece.
As far as a sunscreen, what's everyone using? A DIY job or something sold commercially?

Congratulations. You'll love it.
I made my own sunscreen. As for the Televue sol searcher, it already comes with the deluxe.
RE the case, I think the foam block is 10x10x20 or maybe 8x8x20 if I remember correctly, so that wouldn't be the case.

That case looks great, Les. The price is right, too. I think I'll order one. Did you have to cut the foam at all to fit the case?

Nope, the PST foam slid right in, in fact box is just a hair bit long so plenty of room. Plus room on top also for other things. Hope the Lunt foam is about the same size.

Haha! I'm an idiot. I originally read sunscreen as "sunshield." Just realized that you meant sunscreen as in the cream you apply on your skin. You definitely wouldn't want DIY sunscreen
I was thinking something more like this:
http://www.scopestuff.com/ss_psts.htm
Do you all use something similar with your Lunt? And, if so, what do you use? I imagine blocking the sol finder would be an issue...

Hello from far East, that's a very good choice !
I bought one 4 months ago, exactly the same version!
Because of the actual sun activity, I observe quite a lot with this Lunt but, really, I never needed any sunscreen nor sunshield (just sometime... suncream).
As already said by Frolinmod, a zoom eyepiece is a good value I use often my omegon 7-21, not bad! The included 10mm SWA is often too much. The televue Solar searcher is more than enough and also included in my deluxe version.
You can have a look at some of my last sketches in my website, the last one is here under (Ha full disk and some eyepiece visions). My setup is also shown, Lunt on the top.
Enjoy !

I just measured the foam from my LS35THa Deluxe (received in October, plain white box). It's 18" long, 10" wide, and 6" high.

Terrific sketches, Aquarellia! Thanks for sharing. They give me a good idea of the type of views I can expect to see at the eyepiece.

I appreciate your measuring the foam, rdandrea. btb, you wouldn't mind measuring that storage case you recommended to see how the Lunt shipping foam will fit, would you? I think I'm going to order the case, but I want to make sure the foam fits. Thanks!

I'm not the one who recommended the case. I don't have one. I did see one at Harbor Freight that MIGHT fit, but I'll have to go there with a tape measure to see for sure. Others listed by Harbor Freight are too narrow, but this one might work too.

Looks like there's a Harbor Freight in Springdale, AR. I might have to drop by there some night after work this week and see what they have in store. I'll be sure to bring a tape measure with me.

Hi Joel and all,
Here is the case I am using. In Canada it's sold by Canadian Tire. I think astronomers buy most of them. (I have 4!)
