One idea I have toyed with more than once is offering continuing education classes in basic astronomy, telescopes and observing at our college, but that is a difficult thing to pull off in addition to my full time teaching load. I would highly encourage you to do it. Your location is also a huge plus over what we have around the Puget Sound. Everyone says the IS makes up for smaller aperture and I don't want mounted binos. Thought I would stop in and say hi. Clouds have got me in a funk. I have been reading and playing video games to keep my mind off the clouds. I'm waiting for the first observing report on it before I make the move. I have only had my new C6 out for a few minutes of hazy moon viewing so far. I'd sure like to try it out someday. Thanks to Mike, my EP collection is complete (Mike's advice is simple, just "buy what you really want, get quality and you only need to buy them once"). It's kinda weird, not needing or wanting any EP's after years of trial and error, but also nice as well. Sounds like you are heading that direction with the XW's and Pan's. I had an XW 10 once that came to me free with a Craigslist scope. Like a fool I sold it before I really knew what it was! Truly sweet glass. Of course the Panoptics are a treasure as well. Love my 41 . Sounds like you are completing your collection. Might have to swap Nagler's for XW's some night for fun Now I am addicted to binoculars. I think I finally have the quality and variety I was looking for so hopefully I can settle down a bit. One of my first images acquired January 2009 from my light polluted backyard. No filters were used. Reprocessed with Pixinsight. The old version in my avatar is too blue. Large version on Flickr. Is this an atmospheric artifact or are there real gas clouds in their vicinity? Or is something else happening here? So are the spikes. The Orion Nebula, the Pleiades, the Horsehead etc. have very bright stars against faint nebulosity. The stars predictably get over exposed. Some of the processing steps and multiple reflections produce the halos. Spikes arise from multiple reflections in the imaging train. In some cases you can even get multiple reflections between the DSLR chip and the IR filter that is directly on it. Or keep changing your time zone preference here. For example, if you use Eastern time zone, your post works. I am on Pacific so your message posts as 9:12am.
