BTW - I spoke to the gang at Tijuana today and asked about the 16" LX200ACF the Club wants to buy. I was wondering whether the reorganization would kill that model. They said they had made plans to drop it and concentrate on the 16" LX600 but word must have gotten around and suddenly they received a bunch of orders. The good news is it won't be eliminated for now. The bad news is that the lead time will probably be 90 days.

Excellent shot John. And thanks for the info on the LXD850.

It's certainly easy to use. I've been doing this for lots of years so I'm not bothered much by polar aligning, guide rate adjustments, guider calibration, PPEC training, guide star selection, or plate solving - but I didn't do ANY of those things with this mount (well, I polar aligned it, but by turning the knobs it said to turn how far it said to turn them; they could easily automate that with a couple of steppers). I just told it to get the rest of the stuff done and started shooting when it was ready. Didn't even do a star alignment; it has home switches and GPS so it knows where stuff is.

It's on my short list for my next mount. Pretty much down to the Meade vs the Mach 1. I like them both. I've owned a few Meade products and they've been great. I know it will be a tough choice once I decide what mount to get.

The Mach 1 is a better mount - IF your intended load is within its capabilities and if you don't mind losing the automation. I have about 60 pounds on there now and once I know how it handles that I will add the FSQ-106N for another 15 pounds or so, which means the Mach1 isn't an option for me. In a permanent setup like mine the automation doesn't mean too much but for a field setup this would be a dream!

I'm shooting M63 now.

Right now my imaging load is at 20lbs with the Edge 8 and 35lbs with TMB and guide scope. So the Mach 1 would cover both of my setups. However I can't rule out a C14HD down the road or something from Planewave Automation would be nice. I like letting the mount/camera/computer do everything. Hope your skies stay clear. I was imaging M81 before the clouds started coming in. Shooting dark frames right now in hopes the clouds will move on.

Haze came in here and ate the guidestar before I was finished with this one, but I guess that's all I'm gonna get. I'm not finished processing it, but it's late and I'm going to bed. Fullsize version is here; I'll update that one when it's completed.

Excellent image John. I was fighting with haze also, especially when the clouds moved out.

What's your FWHM number, Crilly? Did you get the raw PE? What's it look like if you don't have PEC enabled? I'll bet you used a different mount!

Actually, that's good stuff! Sorry, I couldn't resist...

David

Those guys are a barrel of laughs. I skipped an image from the second night; it was very windy and the frames were all over the place. Dug into it tonight and from the data I see the problem - it wasn't guiding! I was still learning how to run the mount and didn't notice. So here's an UNGUIDED image at 2400mm focal length. Pretty *BLEEP* mount, huh?

Awesome image John! How long were the subs? I'm really starting to like the idea of getting an LXD850

Luminance frames were 5 minutes, RGB 2 minutes each. I threw at least half the frames away but it still did pretty well under the circumstances.

I'd say that you've got the polar alignment pretty well squared away. Not bad at all!!

David

I agree. That's great for unguided subs. Especially at 2400mm f/l

But this isn't a thread on this topic, it's merely another post about the same topic in another thread. Like there aren't birthday wishes in this thread all the time regardless of birthday threads in OTO...
