Goldendale Campout & Star Party, June 7 - 9, 2013
      #5728656 - 03/12/13 05:31 PM

It's that time again, yes, that time!

This year it will be the weekend of June 7 -9, a full week earlier than last year; small bribe to moon paid big dividends. As always, don't feel restricted to those three days. You'll be welcome to arrive earlier or stay later. The Honey Bucket should be delivered and snatched the Wednesdays before and after, unless the vendor has changed its schedule.

Directions to the Property

The two main routes to the property are (1) over Snoqualmie Pass then south; and (2) up the lazy River from the Portland area, then north. From Seattle/Tacoma, Snoqualmie is somewhat faster, assuming no problem with the road. On the other hand, if it's warm and dry then a guy going east along the Columbia will probably get a helpful push from strong tail winds. Take your pick, name your tune.

Also, those going from Seattle/Tacoma LP-opolis should note: It's my habit when going to G/dale from home to check for traffic snafus. I once avoided a 3 hour backup over Snoqualmie with a last-minute check.

First the Snoqualmie directions.

From Snoqualmie go through Ellensburg, then south through Yakima on I-82, then watch for signs to Hwy. 97 South and to Goldendale. You can leave I-82 in two places: around Union Gap and a bit farther south, going through Toppenish. Follow Hwy. 97 south over Satus Pass.

Turn right (west) as you get to G/dale, on to West Broadway St. (SR 142 and Dairy Queen on corner). In a few blocks notice a grocery store on your left, for future supplies. They have good seafood (oysters!) on Saturdays. Travel exactly one mile from the highway, then turn left on South COLUMBUS Ave.

Travel south on South Columbus Ave. exactly .41 miles, then turn right on West Railroad St.

*** Turn left at the stop sign after 1/4 mi. or so.

You will soon come to a "Y". Stay to the Left; this is where your road becomes Horseshoe Bend Road.

There are a couple more Ys in the road. Always stay on Horseshoe Bend Road, which will mean keeping Right at the Ys.

Notice a prominent and lonely stand of trees ahead of you and on the left of the road. Just after you crest a hill, just past the trees, turn left onto Pinto Drive. The turn is .5 - .6 mi. after the intersection with Erickson Rd. As you go through the gate look to your right across the swale and youll see camping activity, your destination. Pinto soon makes a 90* bend to the right and becomes Apaloosa Court. Just after the road crosses the drainage and starts up a hill, turn a hard right onto an offroad graded but unimproved drive, and follow it to the camping area.

And from the Portland area:

Follow I-84 East from Portland, then go North on Hwy. 97 at the Biggs Junction, which is east of The Dalles. Follow signs to Goldendale.

Turn left onto East Simcoe Drive as you approach Goldendale.

Follow E. Simcoe Dr. to the T-intersection and turn right onto So. Columbus Ave.

Go 4 or 5 blocks, passing a gas station on your right (usually cheapest gas in town,) then turn Left onto West Railroad St.

Follow directions beginning at the *** above.

Coordinates

The coordinates (at mouth of Pinto Drive) are:
45* 47' 44.31" N
120* 57' 18.23" W.

Other Stuff

There are a couple of motels in G/dale for non-campers. History indicates about a 50/50 ratio of astronomers to people just out to enjoy a camping weekend with friends. There's much to see & do in the area, as subsequent discussion in this thread may illuminate.

Average total precipitation for June is .83. The historic average highs & lows for June are 73* - 47*, and the records are 102* - 27*. Pack for a significant wind chill if the wind decides to blow, and believe me, the wind can really whip up! Plan your tents/awnings setups to survive in and provide shelter from the wind. In June dogs should be pre-treated for ticks. Typically, but not always (as we learned last year), the wind dies away at dusk.

Shopping and water in Goldendale, 15 min. away.

Plan for a Potluck Saturday, and doubtless there will be other group dining. The planning committee quashed a motion to forbid alcohol, on a point of order. Irish whiskey is always in order.

There is no water at the property, so carry in your own water. Please plan to pitch in something for the Honey Bucket; $5/person would be about right. Please, no open fires or charcoal BBQs (gas all right.) A neighbor sells what may be Washington's best eggs.

Non-astronomers will be warmly welcomed, but remember, the focus of nighttime activities will be astronomy. Please be prepared to use only red or red-covered lights, flashlights and headlamps after dark, inside and outside tents. Dark is the Night Queen. (If you don't have a red flashlight, pick up a roll of tail light repair tape at an auto parts store to cover your white light in several layers.)

If you plan to use a generator (other than wind or solar) please camp in the area near the observing pads 150 yd. away at the top of the hill.

I'd welcome posting of photos from prior events!

I can't imagine who even proposed that motion. You sure it wasn't quashed on a point of a gun barrel?

Thanks Mike - I've decided that it's more fun to drive. By the time I get a car at the Dalles, then drive to the site, the total time is almost the same as driving. I have to load, unload, reload, etc. And the airport at Goldendale has too much gravel - it almost destroyed my prop when I was there two years ago.

I might be driving a new rig - I've decided it's time for a minivan!

I am buying a portable gas grill for sure this year so I only need to go to town for shrimp egg rolls and breakfast. The Chinese place in town makes some great shrimp egg rolls but, I am not a fan of the rest of their food.
I know I said I was getting the grill last year but, I went on a gear buying spree and didn't get it. I need a new camp coffee pot too. I let someone borrow mine and they melted it :-(

Anyone thinking about trying a May trip (weather permitting)?

Yes, I'd like to take Minnow down during the May new moon weekend (or maybe later) and leave it for the season but I've made no definite plans. I wouldn't order up a honey bucket.

I remember when we had our first star party there, in a late May, that our friend's dog dish froze all the way to the bottom -- you've been warned!

Cool. At least there is the chance of company. If the weather report is bad for Thursday, I may wait as well. The extra day off will still help me get ready to shift my sleep schedule from getting up at 3:45am to going to bed around then.

On a side note there is blue sky above me right now. The clouds are thinning. Maybe we will have some good weather...

We have upgraded the van since our last run to goldendale, the old hippy van has morphed into a roadtrek 190, so we have a furnace and honey bucket on board now. I upgraded its house battery so we have 140ah of 12v goodness to power telescope gear.

Oh, and we changed out a couple of telescopes too. Chris won't be drooling over somebody else's tak anymore, I bought her a toa-130 last fall.

If we make it down, it'll be the first time out into the field with the new gear.

I haven't heard of the star party before but am intrigued by the site and easy access to Goldendale (for my wife). If the weather coorperates I may join you all and bring my new 16" Orion GoTo Dob. My 30 year old 17.5" Odyssey is just too big to carry in my truck anymore so I've downsized. Is there a point of contact for this star party?

Len, welcome to Cloudy Nights!

I hope you and your wife decide to join us at the star party. With good weather we get very good skies -- darker than TMSP but not to OSP standards.

Really, this thread is the best point of contact for most questions; it can be helpful to get more than one person's opinion about an issue. There's no registration or anything similar. If you'd like to talk to me about the event or obtain my email address, just send me contact information in a Private Message - (click on my user name & find the "send message" button.)

I was just remembering the wind last year on Saturday. Worst night I've had there out of about a dozen. Sure was nice of Stacy to offer the hospitality of his RV that night for music and drinks.

Yeah, it was The Howler for sure. Sky time would have been better, but I have to admit that it was kind of fun to deal with salvaging awnings, tents, etc. in the midst of what felt like a hurricane. I hope that was the last time we have to move cars & trucks to create anchor points for tent guy lines. And I was really amused at the sight the next morning, of Steve sound asleep inside his flattened tent.

Remember how a couple of the struts on my EZ-Up were damaged? I ordered replacements (two kinds) last August and I *still* don't have them all! First I received one, probably in Oct., then two more in January, but the final two were the wrong ones. Perpetual back order.

In spite of that, I still had a fantastic time! The July weekend made up for the lack of viewing in June.

It was fun and exciting taking down the shelters before they were completely destroyed. It is worth the risk to go. One good night in Goldendale is worth a 4 hour drive each way. Two or 3 would be much better.
Did you remember to put in the weather order Mike?

Welcome to cloudynights. You should definitely come to this star party. Mike's land in Goldendale has become one of my favorite placesin the state. Nice people who are fun to view with and a large variety of different telescopes and binoculars to check out. Very nice skies as well (except when the eastern half of the state is on fire).

I got a great deal on a 13 ethos yesterday. We'll have 2 for you to try out now Mike. . I couldn't pass it up because I was actually looking for a 13 when I bought the 21. This isn't the right thread for this talk though but, I am excited that we will be able to have it at the star party.

You're going to love the 13, Sean. I've had one for a couple of years now, and it probably gets more use than any of my (few) other EPs. In 2011 I successfully completed OSP's Intermediate Viewing Challenge (or whatever they call it), using Telrad + 13E to find targets, so it makes an excellent finder. I've never looked through a 21E though, and I'm looking forward to comparing it with my other two wide field EPs. (26 T5 and 41 Pan).

Darn it. I thought I was bringing another one you didn't have yet. I thought you had a 6mm (which may be my last one at some point). Anyway, the 21 can go in your focuser and I look forward to the awesome combo of your mirror and that eyepiece. the 26 will probably edge it out because of less glass. Just a prediction, no actual data to support it.

The 21e is absolutely huge. I am going to try rebalancing my dob this weekend for the moonlite and giant eyepiece combo. I don't want to do it out in the field somewhere and I want to be ready.

I am going to really enjoy this trip down. 3 full observing nights and possibly a partial for Wednesday night, if I can get my butt in gear.

Kerry, you can try it too but, you bought the same type last time I let you try one. It could get expensive if you keep trying them :-) Have you used the 8" astrograph visually? How does it do?

It works for visual and that's one reason I bought it...grab & go alt/az set up.
But it wasn't what I expected and I just use it for video, which it excells at quite well.
All and all, I don't recommend it for visual use, Toms 8" F6 dob is far better in my opinion for the visual use and transport.

Well, if that's what has to happen...I'm not gonna complain.

Sean, you're right, I do have a 6 mm. Too often our seeing is too poor to support it. I really like using it on globs . . . it seems to burrow right in to the core and the larger/nearer ones fill the entire FOV.

Now that you mention the size and weight of the 21, I'm glad I'll get a chance to see how the scope balances, with Paracorr + big EP. I think it'll be fine; it can't weigh too much more than the 41 Pan.

It is bigger than my 30mm ES82. I am not sure if it is heavier. My balance concern is the moonlite focuser paracorr and heavy eyepiece. I barely had enough clutch tension for the 30mm before the focuser so I need to slide my tube down a bit. I may do it today.

The 41mm Pan is my favorite EP, but it's rather a specialized EP -- only really suitable for a long-focal-length SCT (due to pupil diameter stuff), and that only for SCT's bigger than 10" or so (due to central tube width). So basically, only good for a couple Celestron and Meade models. But quite nice on them.

I'm sure some of the light from the giant exit pupil is wasted on me, but there's no visible vignetting with my scopes and I really like the wide field views.

Yes Sean, I have. I haven't used it much at night, but I've used it as a spotting scope with my 45* correct image diagonal in the day several times. Most of my wider-field astronomy is with binoculars.

I can't use the eyepiece anymore because my new scope are too fast. I really enjoyed it at f6 and at f8, it should be very nice. Let me know and I'll bring them down.

Mike,

A question about generator use. I am bringing my 23 foot travel trailer and use my generator a couple of hours a day for battery top off only, so does it matter where I park? I am planning on arriving on Wednesday and am really looking forward to the star party.

Hi, Cliff. First, I'm delighted to hear your confirmation that you'll be coming.

Second, I don't think anyone would be bothered by your generator for a couple of hours daily and you should feel free to park anywhere; the real gripe is people who destroy the nighttime ambiance with mechanical noise.

If you're the first to arrive you might be uncertain where to park. My tent trailer, Minnow, should already be there, as a landmark. It'll be lonely, so stop by and say hello to it. The event location is the acre or two of flat ground where Minnow is parked. I suggest you move well west of the tent trailer location. There's plenty of flat ground. You'll notice a bank south of Minnow, oriented east/west, that borders the viewing/camping area. You should avoid parking immediately below the bank, because there are some deep ruts there. And one more tip: the prevailing -- and occasionally strong -- winds are from the west, and you might want to orient your RV north/south to create a windbreak below which you can set up your astro gear.

I'd like to join you at Goldendale. Sure have heard a lot about it and it seems like a great site. I would arrive on Wednesday or Thursday with a 19' travel trailer, if that's ok.

Looking forward to seeing some dark skies again.

Actually, we will be farther from G'dale after the move. We are going up island about 2.5 hours drive from Duncan, ending up in Campbell River.

BUT, there is dark sky only a few miles out of town in that area, just as dark as G'dale. We've been scoping things out over the last couple of weeks, and, in the agricultural areas just south of town, the skies are amazing on a clear / dark night. We've rented a place in town for the short term, Chris starts the new job on June 3, and there isn't enough time to find / buy what we want, so we'll start the search for a permanent place after the summer rush of family events is over. We've got eldest daughter getting married in July, and a family reunion to attend shortly after. Once that's all out of the way, the hunt is on.

If we can find what we are looking for, then once we are moved into the location, you can expect an invite to the C&G invitational star party after the observatory is built. Probably still a couple years out before everything is in place, but, we are bound and determined to end up in a location where it's relatively dark, and has a decent vista in most directions from the observatory.

Last year there were 3. The first one in June was a blow-out due to the wind, so most of us went back in July. I believe they had another in August. Each event happens nearest the new moon of that month.

We could be back in July. It's a great place and friendly folk. Especially Mike, (Spaced) who owns the joint. He has some guidelines around here somewhere. You'll hear about anything cooking if you follow this forum, especially the "PNW Eterna... thread".

Another reason Goldendale is nice is that it's a smaller party and you can spread out a bit. You get crammed in like sardines at most of the bigger parties.

Sometimes Steve flys in and one time he took a bunch of us for a ride. that was a BLAST!

No axe murderers allowed for sure though, so if you're one of those, forget it.

Don't worry, most people don't get my sense of humor.

Groz, I hope you and Chris find/make a good home in Campbell River. I was in that area several times while boating with my parents in the '60s. We'd usually stay at the little resort straight across the water, April Point. Lots of tidal action around there & lots of fish. Just a lovely area.

Dave, I'm sorry you won't be able to make it but maybe next time. I plan one outing for the June new moon annually and make a point of inviting non-astronomers as well. Last year others stepped up and organized outings for July and August. "Organizing," in our k.i.s.s. world, is simply ordering up a honey bucket and getting the word out. In August the past few years T.A.S. has used the place at the same time for their young person's program; there's enough room for both.

Stacy, thanks for the pix!

I took the tent trailer down there Fri. night. It is just beautiful right now -- lush & green, with lots of wild flowers. It was too hazy for astronomy -- a cricket and coyote kind of night.

Well, we are a congenial group, so we will accept your denial in that regard. However, I am curious, if you eschew the axe, what is your preferred instrument for the foul deed? I've heard some astronomers who seem dagger oriented (they talk of some knife edge test); some take deadly aim with lightswords like in Star Wars (called lasers). I heard one mutter something about not being able to get that sucker centered in the crosshairs (so I assume he was fond of telescopic rifles). Everyone knows a person enamored of Canons. You have to be careful around people like Robert & Ajay because they incessantly talk about shooting various things. They also conspire to filter things out, which I take for gangster euphemism to "rub out". Me? I used to be a Baader person, but now I am much nicer!

Tom, Don't you hate it when your hobby sets up snooty rules that cramp your style. For example, when I fish I want quick results, but the rules are so prejudiced against using sticks of dynamite...

The spring Camp Delany forecast was pretty bad too but we had three observable nights so it is my policy to go as planned and take what comes and it is typically OK.

I can't wait for a little R&R at G-dale.

Seems it never ends around here. So far this weekend I put a new carb on the scooter. Stained the lawn chairs. Put two new valves and faucets in the master shower (first time soldering copper). Fixed a hydraulic leak on the RV and slow cooked a couple of tri-tips. I would have mowed, but it was too wet all weekend.

On an unrelated note, I was warned by the sanitation service that if the weather doesn't turn and it doesn't start drying pretty dam quick they'd have to leave the honey bucket at the road instead of close to the camping field.

Haha Mike. I used this stain, and highly recommend it! Tried it out on a swing-set I got for the grand-kids and it was great. One gallon did the swing-set, the Adirondack chairs and a teak table! Cabot Australian Timber Oil

Here is my $100 Craigslist swing set with a fresh coat of Cabot.

Now back to the Star Party. Anybody going down for Wed. Night?

Looks like a nice dry spell right before the SP so that might work out well. Still hard to predict this early, but sometimes AccuWeather is right on the button.

I am going to try to get down there by Wed. Early evening. Honey Bunny **forgot** to mark out her calendar so she will not be gracing us with her company so you only get me. And maybe one doggie.

I will be setting up on the higher area towards the road as I doubt my monstrosity will make it down to the lower level without getting hung up on something.

I hope you can make it, Myles. Take your wife to Maryhill Museum, then to the winery for her birthday! The weather forecast is looking highly promising.

I don't know for sure that AT & T coverage exists at the site but I think it does. I get T Mobile there and I know others get coverage from other carriers but I'm not sure which ones. I hope someone can tell you.

Some of you may have gotten the email that the International Dark-Sky Association has given the Goldendale Observatory a Silver rating - not quite Gold, but indicates good skies in Goldendale area. Of course we already knew that, except when it's raining or the winds howling!

Of course, Jackie, it's darker where we are than at the observatory.

Stacy, yeah! I'm seriously jazzed about the weather forecast. I think we're going to have *at least* a couple of good nights. I'm going to do my best to go Wednesday.

And on a totally unrelated note, I see that some network is starting a series based on Stephen King's "Under the Dome." I don't know the date the book was published but it's quite recent. (There's reference in it to Obama's second term but that must have been ahead of the fact.) I just finished listening to the 30 CD recorded book a couple of weeks ago. It's really good. I don't know if I'll try to watch the series, since I know how it plays out, but I thought a number of times over the month or so I listened to it that it would make a terrific movie. That guy is really a gifted story-teller. And I think it would be deadly as a series instead of a movie.

Well, I don't have AT&T but I can get 4-5 bars at pixiland on the sprint network.

My wife, Debbie, and I, Leonard, plan to come over on friday and stay until Sunday. This will be our first trip to this star party so I'm looking forward to it and meeting all of you. We'll be bringing our tent trailer and my new Orion 16 inch GoTo Dob. I've only had it out once in a relatively dark site since I got it in lat April. It is much easier to transport than my old 17 inch.

She does like to look at things that are not "fuzz" balls. Star clusters are her favorite while I enjoy Globular Clusters and Planetary Nebulae. I realize that at this time of year we are in the realm of the Galaxies and it is a treat to see the spiral arms in M 51 and the black eye in M 64 through my new scope. I do enjoy seeing dust lanes in edge on galaxies, e.g. NGC 4565.

Sure! I'm more than willing to share the views. At the Seattle Astronomical Society star party at Snoqualmie Point a few weeks ago I got a lot of oohs and aahs with Globular star clusters. I could even see some resolution in NGC 5053. The dust lane in M 104 was easy as well as the dust lane in NGC 4565.

When did the high clouds finally move on?
It cleared up here at the Observatory around 11:00 and then clouded back over again around 4:00..just before it began to get light.
Kinda hazy now.

It wasn't "blow the tent away" type of wind, just the average type of breeze for here. It died down after dark. I shot a wide field of M106 while waiting for the lagoon to rise, and didn't lose any exposures. I got my AT6RC mounted up or tonight(not a cloud in the sky) (Knock wood)

I hope everyone made it home, safely, I did. The wind along the Columbia Gorge was rough on the camper but no problems just less MPG. I-205 was a non event as well, smooth sailing all the way to Port Orchard! Thanks Mike for a great star party, I look forward to next year!

I decided I'd seen the gorge often enough so I went over White Pass. Very scenic and a nice change, but a bit longer drive. It was great to see everyone again or meet for the first time. Saturday night, once the wind died down, had what I thought was very good transparency, galaxies looked great in all scopes. Seeing was so-so, but I don't think that detracts from the faint stuff so much. Tom, we missed you, and you missed a good night. Thanks again Mike for your hospitality.

I went to visit the Goldendale Observatory and got the standard view of the sun through an h-alpha scope and Venus in the big 24" scope and the 5" piggy back scope (which had the better view). I also talked them into trying to find Mercury at 3 in the afternoon which Steve Stout, the man behind the place, found right off using the old style setting circles. It was about 40% crescent and a nice view in the 5" scope.

Brad

Ya, I'd have to give the nod to Cliff. He made chili on-site which takes a lot of effort.

Tom was missed.

All in all a great star party we will surly reference in years to come. Thanks again Mike.

Hmmmm, dissenting vote on potluck. The chili was excellent but I think Janika's casserole tickled my fancy just a bit more.

Kerry, I'm disappointed in the appearance of your two night sky shots in the thread. The one I saw on site through your camera, the one of my trailer and me, was *much* better balanced. The Milky Way was visible and looked good, while here I really have to squint to see anything other than the red light and the rest is black (same for the night shot of Cliff). It is such a gorgeous composition that I hate to see it wasted with such a poor display; do you have a Flickr account or some such that we could link to? Incidentally, I really like your day shots and your "last dam picture" caption made me grin.

I appreciate the "thanks" several of you have mentioned but I sincerely want to thank all of you for coming. The first-timers all added a lot of positive energy to the event, not to mention two very welcome windbreaks.

Steve, you have me seriously investigating electric cars!

I will say that Saturday night was about as good as it gets. I had a great time viewing and I want to apologize to everyone that was expecting me to drop by, I was glued to the eyepiece for most of the night.

Kerry - I never even saw you there - saw your scope but didn't get a chance to say "Hi" - sorry man!

Janika & Cliff - Thanks so much for the excellent food. I felt kind of bad cause I only brought grapes :-)

Jackie - I missed you as well. I showed up Friday night at about midnight, after sitting on I90 for 3 hours while they cleared an accident.

Thanks to Stacy for the comfortable living room & jam session.

Last but not least - thank you again Mike. You place out there is awesome!

Stacy,

You wanted to know the weight of my Orion 16 inch GoTo dobsonian. I couldn't recall the weights at the time but have looked it up since coming home.

The optical tube section weighs about 90 lbs. with most of the weight in the primary mirror section, while the base (including the cradle) weights about 105 lbs. for a total of 195 lbs. with a low CG.

By the way it was good talking you about eyepieces and the like at the star party

Starting to get things back in order after unloading and putting things away.

Here is the first photo from Wednesday night - fighting the wind at 2000mm FL was a bit of a challenge, but there was enough to get the ring, but with some oblong stars.

Kerry - great travel photos. Nice touch. Thanks for posting!

Thank You Doug! That was with a 28mm to 105 EF. I picked it up used a few years ago. It's pretty good all around. I probably should have closed up the aperture a bit, the stars gett pretty ugly at the edges.

I'll be heading over to Goldendale to attend the TAS star party next new moon. I believe it will be at one of the member's property. He bought the plot last year after he was at Pixieland last year.

Looks like they might miss the new moon: "The TAS members Goldendale Star Party for 2013 will be on July 11th through the 14th."

The new moon is on the 8th.

I'm planning to be up at Table on the preceding weekend.

Steve talked me into it. I leased a Nissan Leaf Thursday. Just went over 100 mi. There's a fair amount of new stuff to learn, since I've not only never had an electric car but never had one with a navigation system, either. I'm maybe 1/2 way through the 2"+ of manuals. But so far I've found nothing I don't like. My previous experience with Nissans (my wife's Altima, gone now for 7 or 8 years) wasn't the best but I'm relieved to report that the new one seems very well constructed.

Robert and Doug, you are master Lagoonistas!

Sleepy, of course you fell asleep!

Hi, Tom,

No special charging station . . . I can't justify the expenditure in the high $100s. I can charge it overnight using 110 v. household current. My electrician will be over to install a 220 v. outlet for me soon.

Are you coming to the Luau? When? I'll be going over Friday afternoon & setting up. I'll pick up a keg on the way. Tom H. went over Saturday & put up his awning & tent.

Anyone else want to check it out Saturday? PM me for info & directions.

Wow Mike - that was quick! I see you're having a 220 outlet installed. Are you doing the EVSE upgrade? This is by far the lowest cost solution for L2 charging (220v). Don't worry about the fact that you're modifying a piece of leased equipment. If Nissan won't take the cable back, EVSE Upgrade will exchange it for a non-modified cable, or someone will gladly trade you for their brand new cable.

http://evseupgrade.com/?x

Get online and sign up with:
Chargepoint
https://na.chargepoint.com/home
Blink
http://www.blinknetwork.com/

So far, I'm still only using the supplied L1 charging cable. Last week I never plugged in at my house - did all my charging at work until Friday, where I used an L2, 2 hours at Fred Meyer for 2$.

Oh, and here you can buy color match side protective molding for about $125 shipped:
http://sportwing.com/Nissan-Leaf-Body-Side-Moldings-2011-2012-FE-LEAF11

Here's mine:

Steve, you just saved me about $500 with the EVSE Upgrade referral. I was about to buy an $800 charging station. Thank you! I just placed my order to upgrade my cable. I send them my 110 v. cable, they wave their wand, transform it to 220 v. then send it back

I'm signed up with Chargepoint (which has several stations at the library near my house.) I should probably sign up with Blink, too.

Thanks for molding tip.

I like my car!!!!

I'm getting great info from this forum:

Oh, and after your rear bumper gets scuffed up from pulling things out of the hatchback, you'll want one of these:

Fortunately, the weather was in a "typical" pattern, which meant the wind died down after dark.
