You liked his picture of a sunset...how do you like mine of a sunrise I saw on September 7th at Mt. St. Helens?

Wonderful gradation of hues. Must have been gorgeous in person.

Yes, Sunrise Point is where the Tacoma Astronomical Society uses. However, it has NO "facilities" which my wife who accompanied me insisted on. Besides, when we arrived at Sunrise Point in the afternoon, it was infested with bug swarms, another minus point for my wife on the site.

Hence Sunrise Park parking lot. Other than the lights from the building, it wasn't a bad spot really. Next time I'll either use Sunrise Point, or if Sunrise Park, then choose my site away from the buildings.

OK, I'm with you now. I thought you had been at Paradise.

I wouldn't expect that mosquitoes are still a problem at Sunrise Pt. this time of year. What kind of bugs plagued you? Were they fewer at Sunrise?

No, not mosquitoes, some kind of fly or gnat but they flew in spherical swarms all around Sunrise Point when we stopped there. They were not at Sunrise Park.

Of course they'd "gone to bug bed" by the time we went back to Sunrise Point at 2:30 AM.

Your tears may be for a good reason, Robt. OTOH, there's still time for another spate of warm weather, if the planet cooperates.

Yea Mike... I considered that thought. We often get a warning shot of cool temps and a dusting on the peaks then it moderates a little till the end of October but; if they get too much moisture the "tentative repairs" to the road will fade quickly. The larch trees were juuuust starting to shift in color tone, so they'll be full on gold pretty quick.

Well, money and equipment haven't yet exchanged places but I've bought a scope: a used TV NP101!

. . . and it arrived today. I'm a happy guy.

You may recall that I mentioned I want to sell my 80 mm Megrez with the broken focuser. All fixed, only required the tightening of a concealed set screw. The only thing remaining to do before sale is verify that the scope's fall didn't knock the collimation out of whack. Tonight makes twice that I've gone to my driveway, seen mostly clear with a wee bit of clouds, assembled scope to do a star test, and by the time I've gotten out there it's clouded up. One of these nights . . .

My image of the Ring Nebula has been requested for use in the BBC program Sky at Night. They said they want to use it in the next program, but I don't know when that is.

Thank you Mike and Ron. As my wife pointed out the image will probably last all of 3 seconds if it is broadcast. Still I find that exciting.
