Yet another 8" RC price drop from Astro-Tech.

The phrase "good things come to those who wait" could never have a more perfect meaning. I thought lowering the price of the scope to $2495 was good, then $1995 came along, now we have an even more incredible price....$1395. That is not a typo...$1395. For $1395 you get the Astro-Tech 8" RC with f/8 Quartz optics, Dielectric Coatings, Carbon Fiber tube, 2" crayford focuser and Losmandy compatible D style dovetail.

I know it has taken longer then expected, but a price drop of $1600 makes it well worth the wait.

I can't think of any reason why anybody shouldn't pull the trigger. The 6" is the price of a premium eyepiece and the 8" is well less then half the price it was last year at NEAF. I can't wait to get final pricing on the 16.

Mike, this raises a question - and please feel free to tell me this is none of my business if it's the most appropriate answer- but what gives? You announce a product at a price point that is drastically lower than anything else on the market, then during the course of the next few months, the price drops faster than consumer confidence in the current economy. Since I know nothing of the business side of astronomy, the size of the price drop seems curious, almost to the point of raising a red flag. What has changed?

What has changed is the method of production and economy of scale. We were shocked by the prices as well. The goal is to get an RC in SCT territory price wise and we are getting closer and closer. I am all in favor of taking the time to get the price the hobby would like to see.

f/8, Carbon Fiber, Quartz, $2795. The 10" and larger will be higher then the 6 and 8 for sure. The numbers are too low in the larger size to get really good price breaks. However, you are still at least $3K less then the next 10" RC.

They are a lot finer than the VC200L... I look forward to seeing a lot of real world tests to determine how this goes VS a VC200L..

Thanks Alex. When I measured the vanes from published photographs of the tubes I get about 5mm to 6mm for the Vixen and about half that for the AT8RC. Your information confirms my crude measurements.

Are there any independent reviews of this product yet? To my knowledge I have not seen one yet, and I know of 4 people including my self that are considering this scope but are waiting for a review. If there has been one could you point me to it and I will surely past it on to my friends who are interest too.

The plan is the 10, 12 and 16 will be at NEAF. I hope they will be production ready end of May/mid June.

The corrector/flattener is finished for the 8, the 6 and 10 are being finished and the rest should be ready with the scopes.

When will the reducer/corrector for the 8" RC be available for order?

I'd be very interested in picking one of these up, but as the reducer would also be a corrector, I'd rather have both the scope and R/C on the same order.

I hope it will be available soon. The "plan" is to be available with the scope. I don't have a price, but I suspect sub $200 hopefully sub $150.
