I want to keep my imaging setup light weight so that I can still carry it out the door without much strain. Anything I can put on my Sirius EQ-G mount and still gather a fair amount of light would be nice. I looked at the Orion 6" imaging newt but from what I gather it may not work so well with DSLRs and that is important to me.

Since I have to pack and go out of the big city to look at the stars, I welcome a good quality 6" imager. My SN8 with 80mm autoguider is just too heavy for my back and my LXD75.

How about a compromise between a 10" f/4.0 & f/5.0 = f/4.5 with a carbon fiber tube. This way using f/4.5 with a TelVue Paracorr - which is optimized for a F/4.5 telescope -would make a good match.

I apologize if I'm overstepping my bounds here, as most of the interest in this thread is by/for imagers...but how 'bout a *visual* 6" f/6 Newtonian with (and here's my big sticking point with 6" Newts...) a 2" focuser. Yes, I know your secondary mirror's width would be a sizable percentage of the primary, but that's why I'd lean towards f/6 vs. f/5 with 2" focusers.
I was scouring all around for a 6" f/6 Newt w/2" focuser, and I couldn't find one. Astrotelescopes makes a 6" f/6 refractor, but once you've included a suitable mount, you're out a grand. Intes makes a similar Mak-Newt, but ... $$$$ ... Ouch.
A 6" f/6 Newtonian with a 2" focuser for visual work would just rule for sweeping wide fields. No CA to worry about, and an f/6 scope's more forgiving of eyepieces that don't have green letters. It could yield close to 2.9-deg TFOV with 6" of aperture, more than 25x100 binoculars. And if the size of an 8" f/6 or a 6" f/5 Starblast is any indication...it'd be quite the bargain for RFT junkies like me.

Mike, I'm all over a 10", IF it is
f4 (ish, max of f4.5 - so MPCC and ParaCorr would work), and
Carbon Fiber, and,
FeatherTouch focuser, and
does NOT come with extended dew shield integral.
In other words, keep the total length and weight as low as possible. Maybe have the dew shield be modular, easily "bolted on/off".
I could live with 25-30#, but could NOT live with length over 40"...
f5 and 10" with a built in dew shield will be just too long for my space in my observatory (and I'm probably not alone). Let's face it a 10", f5 is going to be as big, or bigger than and XT10 OTA!
Plus the moment arm of such a long assembly may challenge any mounts below the CGE-Pro "level"...
Pretty much consider the "competition" to be an SN10; if you do everything it does, just better (quality, weight, fit/finish, FOCUSER!), then you'll have hit the nail on the head.
All of this is perspective I've gained from having an SN8 (on my CGE) and then a Vixen R200SS (modified with CF tube and FT focuser, etc. by DSMC). Unfortunately, with DSMC on "hold" right now, getting a modified SN10 isn't an option.
In my case, the beauty of an f4 10" would be that it would be a much better "visual" scope for me, when I'm NOT doing AP (as compared to my 8" f4 right now). So I may, or may not, be a typical target demographic.

Mike I have a Tak MT-160 and it 's a great scope here are the specs.
MT-160
FL=1000 mm
F Ratio f/6.2
With Flattener
FL=1330 mm
F Ratio f/8.3
Image Circle 36 mm
Degrees 1.5
With Reducer
FL=776 mm
F Ratio f/4.8
Image Circle 36 mm
Degrees 2.7
the other nice thing is a zero shift rotating focuser.
Now put something like that together and I think you will have a winner

A 10" imaging Newt. would be great as long as it's kept to f/4 or f/4.5. Focuser upgrades are nice but, the stock focuser being offered as on the current 8" is not bad at all. Upgrades to higher quality and more expensive focusers should be at the desire and descretion of the purchaser/owner, or offered as an optional upgrade.
I also tend to agree with other posters that a good 6", f/8 refractor would be very nice also. One produced to higher standard than the well-loved Celestron, and kept at a reasonable cost would be welcomed. How about something a little different in the achromtic refractor category? Perhaps a 6" f/10 or f/12 at reasonable price and availability to compete with the D&G's?

I'd be seriously interested in a 6" f/4.
Definitely need a dew shield option (removeable fine by me), as summertime humidity up here dews up EVERYTHING within a couple of hours.
2" or larger focuser - Moonlite or FT option.
Dedicated rings.
CF would be OK, but not a necessity - I'd rather put the extra $ towards a Moonlite.
