Hello Rob,
yes, we are planning for a 10 inch (254mm) F/12 or F/15 aperture Achromatic doublet in cell for 2010 possibly by end of this year. So please stay in touch. Also many people ask us to offer 6 inch Achromatic doublet in push pull style cell, so we will produce first few within next 6-8 weeks, price should be in a 375-400 US dollar range.

Hello Doc,
we have just received order for 6 inch F10 Achromatic lens, if interested let me know ASAP at ales@istar-optical.com so we can produce both lenses at a same time. These are still considered a custom build since we do not offer these in our regular portfolio, but we will ad these to our stock by end of this year due to a fairly large demand. We require 200 US dollars money down, rest upon completion. You can pay via PayPal to sales@istar-optical.com or via credit card over the phone.
Cheers,
Ales

Hi Ales,

Could you post some more details around the lens and cell for this new 6" achro? How heavy is it (lens and cell combo)? What is the cell made of? What size tubing is it made for (ID of tubing for both tube and lens shade)? Is it threaded on both sides, and what thread spec? Finally, is it fully multi-coated?

Thanks!

Hello Gary and Gord, here are some specs for the 154mm (6") Achromatic lens F/10. It has black alloy housing with push pull style via 6 screws, they are M5 size (Metric). Weight of this lens is 2.6Kg (5.72 Lb) including the cell, glass is Crown and Flint. Look at the 210 F/9, this lens will be VERY similar in construction and yes, it is air spaced. Please let me know if you have any more questions, thank you buys for your interest, I have sold two the other day and two more are still available for shipping from USA in about 10 day time. We will produce more due to the popular demand. Ales

Hello Gord, I have replied already, please look it up. If you are thinking about making your own scope, consider buying the lens bracket/flange. It is made of massive AlMgTiSi alloy, fits snugly around the lens and speeds up the cooling of the lens considerably. This way you can also control the diameter for already made tubes, the whole assembly is than attached via 5 M5 screws. We can custom make these flanges for you guys. As soon as I get back to Europe I will take photos of the existing flanges so you get an idea how it works. We ahve also a very special design of the front tube which speeds up the cooling even further, I will send photos as well, you can copy our idea on your own scopes. Cheers, Ales

One more info: outer diameter of the cell is 192mm so it can fit tubes from 192 to 210mm+ inner diameter with our optional custom machined flange/bracket. Mail us for a complete list of all available Achromatic objective lenses in push-pull style cell.

This is the test report of the first custom made 6 inch F/10 Achromatic lens in cell. This one is going to England. I hope you will approve the quality for a very low introductory price. We will produce at least 20 more of these by end of this year so reserve yours under ales@istar-optical.com

Hello Ales,

Don't worry too much about what some people are saying. It takes people quite some time to get used to someone "new". I'm sure your products will speak for themselves. I for one have every confidence in you and your products.

It's been very good of you to keep me updated with e-mails. I know you are very busy. Looking forward to receiving the lens and cell.

Kind Regards.

Ales,

It is very exciting to see a new vendor come! I was wondering if you will ever be offering an OTA based on the 4 element 152mm super apochromatic lens set you have on your website? I would be excited to pick up one of these :-)

Ales, I would like to see the prices on the 10 and 11 inch lenses. Will you be providing interferometric reports with each lens? I consider this a major plus.

Not had chance to try out the lens yet. It does look a very "clean" optic in a well machined cell.A couple of pics.

And here is mine.

Yes Glen, the metal work, powder coating, and optical coatings all are first rate. I've not had the chance to try it out yet either. The tube assembly is done but Istar and myself are still working out the final design and production of the countercell used to mate the lens & cell to the main tube. The countercell will slide over the standard 7.00 inch Hastings tubing and provide for an 8" OD dew cap, also from stock Hastings tubing. Sorry but the dew cap cannot slide back. This design should serve us ATM'ers in the States well.

I'll write an article with my review of the lens when done but I can say right now that Istar's support has been first class.

Jeff

Got to agree about the support from Ales, excellent. The cell is machined very well. The glass is spotless.
