AstroTech ATxRC bahtinov masks

I have the prototype 6 inch mask here finally and the fit is excellent. Need to wrap up a few more finishing touches then I will make them available. Cost is up in the air yet but under $50 and maybe under $30 depending on the pricing I get back from the laser cutter. These are made from black acrylic and will friction fit the front inside of the scope.

8 and 10 inch will be coming soon.

Price for the 6 inch will be $35 shipped conus. 8 inch prototype will be around the beginning of March. If anyone has an AT10RC I need the inside dimension of the tube in front of the secondary and also the diameter of the secondary. Millimeters preferred but I can convert.

First batch of 10 AT6RC masks will be in the end of next week or the beginning of the next week. AT8RC and AT10RC prototype design will be going to the laser cutter next week also. I have a prototype AT72ED mask coming in the same shipment of the AT6RC masks. I can custom design a mask for just about any scope if you can give me the dimensions with good accuracy.

AT6RC masks have been shipped to me so I will have them the end of the week. AT72ED prototype is in with them. AT8RC, AT10RC, and the Zhummel Z10 prototypes will be soon.

At72ED Bahtinov mask. Think I am going to make the outer border wider so I can glue on a cut ring of foam. Currently I used some craft foam from Walmart to make the mounting cup.

Order is in for the 10" prototype. Probably have it by late next week along with the AT8RC and the Zhummel Z10. Figured why not use one for visual use, set the focus and lock it down.

AT8RC and AT10RC prototypes will be going to the beta testers this weekend. Hope to get feedback from both in a week to make any changes. I am not going to stock the 8 and 10 but I will get them laser cut on demand. Working on getting a laser cutter that will handle material up to 9.5 inches wide so I can make the 8 inch and down myself.

Z10 bahtinov mask $69. Mounting is 4 small circles of Velcro on the spiders and the back of the mask.

New product in prototype: Canon 450d (and many others) AC and 12 volt DC power supply. Flip a switch to choose your power source. I should have pictures later this weekend. Target price is $99.

Looks like it would be in the same price range as the 450d adapter. These won't be fancy or pretty but they will be functional. I need to finish the 450d and do some testing before I make this an active product. It will give you the option of 12v or 120v A/C if you are in the backyard.

3 AT8RC masks in stock, taking orders for the rest. I can do one at a time orders but there will be a $25 setup charge I will have to pass on from the laser cutter. Putting together financing for a laser cutter so I can do one offs cheaper.

Canon AC and DC input power supply will be bench tested all day tomorrow, if it passes they will be made available. $99 will be the price and each is hand built one at a time and are not fancy! Pictures tomorrow.

Power supply testing

Power supply runs cool but I want to add a vent on the side for even more cooling. Been running fine for 3 hours now. Took a dozen long exposures to make sure it can handle higher current draw long term.

Laser cutter is ordered and being built. 60 watt CO2 laser. I will be able to precision cut many plastics and thin woods, paper, cardboard etc. Plastics can't contain chlorine (no teflon or similar plastics). No metal cutting, that takes a different laser. Expect to have it here in about 6 weeks and will post photos!

Still have masks in stock and can design one for most telescopes. Have got good feedback on the ones that are in use.

Laser has shipped, hope to have it sometime next week! Once past the learning curve I will be doing in house production on products up to 12 inches wide and 20 inches long. Larger will still have to be cut outside my shop.

Laser cutter is here and I have started testing cutting the acrylic I use for masks. Going to be a week or so before I get some that actually look good but I have 3 that are functional if a bit ugly. So I have a special on 3 AT72ED masks, $10 each plus $5 shipping.

The laser cutter:

The blue tube is the exhaust to outside. Underneath I have a 16 gallon water tank for cooling along with the exhaust blower and the air pump that blows fumes away from the laser optics. The water pump is a large aquarium style pump that sits in the water tank out of the way. I need to build a box to muffle the sound from the blower and air pump before the noise drives me insane

Inside of the beast, laser tube runs across the back and is out of sight, the output is reflected with mirrors to the moving parts.

Gave a try at cutting rubylith and it cuts very clean so I can add that to my product list. Send me a drawing with dimensions and I can cut it for you. Smaller items can go in a postal envelope so cheap shipping!

Up to 12 inches wide is my max and 20 inches long.

Possible eyepiece show boxes down the road. Quarter inch thick red oak with box joints. Need to do some sanding then glue together and see how things look but this is a rough picture with it just snapped together.

Need to cut the rest of the parts for the lid with the laser then assemble, sand, stain, and see how it looks. This prototype is only 8x4x4 inches to see how things work out with laser cutting the wood.

Nice...I work with a Ti Sapphire Ultrafast laser, 1mJ per pulse with a 150fs pulse duration...it's fun making plasma with it!!

Custom masks, made same day I get the scope measurements. Need ID or OD depending on how you want it mounted, focal length, clear aperture and diameter of any central obstruction that may exist. Laser cut from 1/8 inch acrylic and several mounting options available. Felt on the edges for inside tube mounting (may require a prototype and a delay in delivery for new scopes), foam ring for over the tube, or nylon bolts in 4 places around the edges.
