We’ve had to increase the height of the door between the garage/loading area and the warehouse so we can get a loaded forklift through the door. The yellow forklift is visible in the garage in the background.

Individual offices for our people starting to get framed in. They’ll have glass fronts for visibility and sound isolation. Work is coming along faster than it looks. They are working every day on the HVAC; plumbing four new bathrooms; installing lighting fixtures and wiring the place for power, computers, phones, main frame, security system, etc.

Steel has been fabricated and delivered for the second floor and roof supports that will make the building structurally sound enough to last another 90 years. Here are the columns that will support the second floor, in the process of being moved inside by the Gradall.

Here are the beams that will sit on top of the columns to support the second floor. They were moved inside about 7:30 this morning.

What’s this? Second floor windows starting to get installed in the front of the building? It's about time.

Installing the windows as seen from inside. All four second floor double windows at the front of the building should be in by this afternoon, 10/26, as well as the three second floor windows on the east side of the showroom. At least we'll be in the dry if the weather turns wet and cold. No more plywood and plastic sheeting covering the holes in the front and sides of the building.

For those interested, here's an image of East Main in Norman in the 1950s. Our new showroom is the double-wide building with the lamp post in front of it on the right side of the image, just past "The Booterie" shoe store with its Florsheim Shoes sign. You can see the four double windows on the second floor that were filled in with cinder blocks some time after this image was taken. We have opened them up again with the new windows shown being installed in the previous post.

What my dad didn't show you was the new graffiti on our brand new thousand dollar paint job on the back of the building. I was extremely pleased.

That street view brings back childhood memories. I grew up in a small town 20 miles west of Norman. It was a thrill to go to the big city of Norman for downtown shopping or a movie at the Sooner!

Yesterday the steel beams were unloaded and stacked on the floor of the warehouse. Today they are supporting the second floor.

Yesterday they were putting in the four double windows facing the street. Today they are all in place. Just in time, as it has been raining since the middle of last night.

The side windows are in place, too. They are so clean you can hardly tell they are there. The building has been deafening the last few days, what with the workers’ boom boxes booming, steel being unloaded and dropped on the concrete floor, the fork lift lifting, the crackle of arc welding, nail guns banging, the pained cries of the owner as he gets yet another bill to pay . . .

Lighting starting to go in. There will be 114 floodlights in the showroom alone, to give you another idea of the size of the place. They will be on dimmers so we can balance the indoor light against the light from the windows and skylights. The coax cable draped under the beams will be rerouted through knockouts in the beams and painted black so they won’t be seen. Michael on the left; our GC Nate on the right.
