David,
It's both but you don't need to uninstall anything. The installer will auto-magically do its thing. Just install over your version 1 installation - it should work as-is.
I should also add that _ALL_ license keys are honored; trials and purchased keys alike.
Hope this helps.

I truly used BackyardEOS for the first time this past weekend, and even though my polar alignment was way off, it was a delight to use.
Very nice piece of work Guylain! Worth way more than the price!

I tried Planetary imaging on Jupiter last night. I was surprised I actually seemed to get about 30fps (w/ T2i & my lowly Acer Netbook). It takes forever to finish writing the AVI after the capture, though - about as long as the capture itself.
Good results but I really wanted an "improve seeing" button.

BackyardEOS version 2 has just been promoted to production status; dated November 20th 2011.
I have fixed a few minor bugs since the last beta release a few weeks ago. I have also added 2 goodies. You can now suspend (and resume) your image capture plan. The second goodie is actually a new application called BackyardRED.
BackyardRED is 100% free for everyone, even if you don’t own a copy of BackyardEOS. Enjoy!
Check the new website too -> www.backyardeos.com
Thank you for your support and interest,

Hello Guylain; I just purchased Backyard EOS a few minutes ago. I understand I will get a "product key" via email when the transaction is complete. My question is: can I download the software now (realizing it will not be operational until I get the product key) and if so, do I download BOTH the "setup.exe installer" AND the "zip package"?
Thanks for your help

Bruce,
Thank you; you should have your key by now.
Yes you can download and install BackyardEOS now without the key; you just won't be able to start the application until you receive your software key.
You only need to download one or the other; it's a personal choice whether you prefer to run off an installed application or simply from a folder you unzip the .zip package into. Either way you will get the exact same software.
Hope this helps,
Guylain

I know you've recently incorporated ASCOM focusing capabilities into BYE, I don't have any ASCOM focusers at the present time. I was wondering if BYE can use the FWHM readings and auto focus an EOS lens via the Canon focus drivers present in their camera control software?

I've downloaded the newest version and have not yet tried it out with camera and scope, and probably won't for a few months, I enjoy being inside in the winter. Having said that, I use it all the time for a quick check of the weather. I used the previous version quite a bit last summer and fall and love it.
One thing I am really looking forward to is trying this out in planetary mode.

Thanks James... in that case you'll be happy to know that in the next release (a few months from now) I've greatly improved creating the AVI in planetary. In the next release creating the AVI is actually _all_ done live while recording so no more waiting at the end of the recording session to shove all images in the AVI.

Happy New Year everyone!
BackyardEOS 2.0.2 dated January 8th, 2012 has just been released.
This is a very small incremental service release which addresses just a few minor issues/bugs reported in 2.0.1.
If you have not experienced any issues with 2.0.1 you don't have to upgrade.
But... 2.0.2 also comes with a brand new complete user manual... A big thank you to John Eckert for his contribution in creating this complete manual. Thank you John!
You can download and view the change log here. http://www.backyardeos.com/download.aspx
Thank you for your support,

I have tried BackYard Red and was wondering how to get it to work with a dual monitor? Right now the main is BYR and I just keep BYE maximized on the other for light control.

Mirror lockup in version 2.0.x is supported with a serial cable.
In the next release 2.1.x mirror lockup will be supported natively with only the usb cable for DIGIC IV cameras. I'm aiming sometime in April for the 2.1 release.
Hope this helps,

I recently started using BYE with my shiny new T2i and I noticed one odd issue. The battery level always shows 80% even as the battery was actually running out.

BackyardEOS 2.0.3 ready for download
http://www.backyardeos.com/download.aspx
Planetary crash creating the AVI file is fixed.
The AVI file size limit of 2 GIG is no longer an issue. A planetary recording will result in a single AVI file regardless of its size.
Do not be alarmed if it takes a few minutes for the AVI to show up in your download folder. Here's the reason why…
Once a planetary recording is complete BackyardEOS will convert the AVI to ensure it can be read by Registax (or other processing tool) without requiring any additional conversion. You will note a notification icon appearing in Windows notification area in the lower right corner of your screen; if you click on the notification icon you will witness the conversion progress. This process will queue the conversions should you start another planetary recording before the first is completely converted to ensure your computer does not suffer from performance degradation.
The conversion is optional and a setting "AVI conversion" is available in the Setting window for those who do not need or want BackyardEOS to convert the AVI for you. If you choose not to have BackyardEOS convert the file for you on the fly you can always convert it at a later time using VirtualDub.
Thank you for your help and patience.

I like the feature that you have for the illuminated eyepiece for doing drift alignments. If I were to make a custom layer for measuring arcseconds, am I able to drop that in a program directory so I can use it too (provided I rename the image)?
If not, could I send it to you for use in a future release?

It's not an image, the reticule is drawn dynamically on-the-fly. I do have plans to offer a more precise measurement base on your optics eventually.

Jim,
BYE does not do guiding, it does dithering.
This said you can't guide and image with the same camera. This is not possible with DSLRs.
You need a separate guide camera and either a guide scope or an off-axis guider hooked up to PHD. Once you have proper guiding then, and only then, can BYE do its magic and dither between each images.
Does this make sense?

There is a good explanation of dithering in the BYE user manual... but I'm no different than anybody else... I rarely read those manuals too
Thank you for your support.
