Very nice application! It my my second favorite iOS app after SkySafari Pro. I would like to see a HD version, and if the AL Double Star and Binocular Double Star Club lists could be added as smart tours, well that would be awesome. Thanks!

At least for me, the Smart Tour for "Wide Easy Pairs" is the same as for "Tough Split Pairs". That doesn't seem right.
I'm on a Gen 3 iPad running iOS 5.1
That doesn't seem right. All I can think is that the filters you have entered have returned a very small set of results so the tours are the same?? Have you entered your filter values correctly?
Have a play. You can always send a screen shot (hold down home and lock buttons) to the feedback email on the app.

Seems very nice. Unfortunately since I have a 2nd gen Touch, I can't use the program. Man I'd like to see Sky Safari enhanced to have some of these features....especially the ability to input one's scope parameters to filter doubles able to be split with a given telescope.

Sounds like a great app. How about a Blackberry app?

Again, sorry Jim, no plans for Blackberry - we'd never get time to observe!

Thanks Germana1 - i'll speak to my technical man about that. If you haven't already, please could you leave a review on the AppStore? Keep on splitting!

I notice a few issues on my iPad:
1. The eyepiece suggestions seem to be a little out of whack at times. It often suggests a much lower power eyepiece than would be optimal (such as a 40mm for separations between 15" and 30"). I have set up my C-8 telescope (2000mm F/L, 200mm aperture) in the filter.
2. I have set up filters for Location, Time, and Telescope, but the Smart Tours gives me stars below the horizon as well as visible stars. For instance at midnight, the tour is starting with stars in Pisces (where the Sun is). I have the proper time and location entered in the filters. The visible stars appearing in the tour seem to have correct positions which would reflect my filter values.
3. One star I ran across (Kappa Hercules) has incorrect R.A. and Dec.

Hi John
Thanks for these comments. 1. I'll look into this. There is a generic calculation based on an optimum magnification which generates an EP suggestion based on focal length. This should work for all scopes buts it's not impossible that certain configurations produce a larger error than others. As a rule 40mm is max and 3mm is minimum. 2. Again I'll check on this point. 3. Noted, thanks we'll correct this.

John,
Re point 1 - I've checked this and stand by our generic calc. As I say, it's only a guide and clearly your site and seeing will also play a role. Not to mention you experience...
Re point 2. The Smart Tour will generate a tour based on 'tonight' which could extend into the wee hours. This is why the Tour screen (red screen) also gives a rise / set time. You're correct that stars in Pisces are in the tour and will be visible from 4am - if you're that way inclined! Some hardy Double Star observers might just be getting started...
Re point three - yes blame my fat fingers. Should be 16hrs not 01hrs
Cheers

Thanks MC,
Have you considered having a filter that displays just the doubles that are currently visible, maybe above a certain altitude? Else one has to browse through the Smart Tours list to find the ones that are currently up and viewable.

Yeah good idea. I'll chat with 'technical' about that.
Of course is will only show you what is visible but in a time window based on NOW until x hrs in the future so they may not have risen yet, but will. It shouldn't show you any that are actually impossible.
I'm getting observation withdrawal symptoms. Too many busy days and dozy evenings. Weather dipped recently too. Looking forward to my next DS session.

Is there any likelihood that it will be compatible with iPod Touch anytime soon?
