Here comes the first batch of photos of the scope and through the scope.
This is a day time shoot to test out how the false color looks like at extreme daytime condition (afternoon with sun hitting Vancouver so hardly).
Night time test will be done Friday evening and I should be able to give my opinion after that. So remember to come back!
First to show you guys the scope. This is a photo of the 120ED (bottom) compare to the 100ED (top). I am not going to complain about the tubes' color this time as none of you are going to agree with me anyway.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Next. The close up of the lens

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Third. The two targets I am pointing the scope to

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
Forth. The prime focus image of one of the targets

---------------------------------------------------------------------------
And.....two shots of the two targets. Using a 9mm EP to bring the power at 100X

Thanks for these Pollux, those close up shots look interesteding, i can't see any colour yet, but i'll hold judgement until night time tests. How do you rate the fit and finish of the tube? Is the focuser fitted ok? It seems they have used the same focuser with a "stepup" ring from the 100mm tube to the 120mm tube...

Yes, it's a step up ring.
As for the build quality. I have to say it is only so-so. The "non pro" series feel better. The white paint on the cell, mount and focuser really makes the scope & mount feel and look SO CHEAP!

That's because I did the color adjustment on that photo! Trust me. The color stinks in person

What were you doing? Standing onthe sidewalk in the middle of the day with the ED120 on a tripod? I love it! Thanks for the shots, Pollux. Look forward to the Sky shots.

Pollux, I was curious about the loan of the scope. If you can divulge it - how does this person feel about the ED120? Are they happy with the optical performance?
BTW, thanks for the info on the focuser. I ordered one this morning.

The scope is a floor demo loaned by the local store (Vancouver Telescope Centre) and I have to be very careful with it when I was moving it around. If I scratch it I will have to buy it.
Glad you are now fine with your focuser thing. You will like that GSO focuser (assuming you are getting the dual speed). Of course some tweaking can be done to make it even better. I have done some tweaking on all 4 of mine and after that they are really feeling like the moonlite focuser

Is Sky Watcher a re-labeled Orion....I mean, is this essentially the new Orion 120 ED? Or is Sky Watcher a totally different entity?

Synta is the manufacturer. Their wholesale arm in Canada is Pacific Telescope Corp., and Synta-made scopes sold by them to dealers are branded "Sky-Watcher".
The Orion 120ED is also a Synta-made telescope. Same as the Sky-Watcher ED120, except for the decoration.

Almost certainly. The ED80 and ED100 have baffles in the OTA. I think Pollux's close-up of the 120's lens shows one baffle visible. Probably more further down the tube.

Yes Pollux, Dual speed. BTW, how do YOU feel so far with the ED120 vs the ED100? I mean just in terms of its length and weight. Was it cumbersome? And were you pleased with the daytime pix thus far? I don't think there's any harm in giving your qualified opinion. Is there somethng you'd like to get off your chest at this point?

Actually, maybe it was "Lucky no chicks saw me."
Round these parts I have lots of 'splaining to do when any passer by, male or female, sees me using astro-equipment during the day. I would say that approximately 75% of those who ask get that "This guy's a total goober" look as I'm talking.
Of course, it's always possible that the "total goober" look is a reflexive response to my own involuntary "This person is absolutely brain dead" look. Who knows.
Love the pics. Hate the OTA colors. Much prefer the Orion color scheme for these babies. Can't wait for the full tilt boogey optical performance review (PUSH! per the other thread). Thanks for posting.
