I've recently bought a pair of Fujinon BFL 8x42 binoculars.
I'm very happy with their performance. However, I have a problem with the lens and eyepiece caps: they are clearly far too loose.
When I pull these binos (with caps on) out of their pouch, I can almost guarantee that the 2 lens caps at the objective end will come off due to friction on the inside of the pouch. Often, gravity alone will make the caps (any of the 4 caps) fall off.
Is there a way to make the caps have a snug fit? Can I buy replacement caps that will fit properly?

Hi Yagon,
I've had this problem too. There are sources on the web to buy caps in various diameters, quite inexpensively.
Usually, I use a tiewrap around the cap, tighten to make the fit snug, and then I tighten just one more notch. Sometimes, I must use two wraps to encompass the total circumference.
If you don't mind the "look" of it, this will get the job done cheaply for you. Just my thoughts--hope it helps.
Best regards, Dave.

Hello again,
Yes, I believe johnno is correct. A tiewrap is a plastic "tie" that can be locked into itself. That is, it has a receptor on one end, and the other end has a geared length that can be engaged.
Once it is inserted into itself, it is (almost) impossible to remove.
They come in various colors and sizes here in the states, some being quite large indeed. I was refering to the standard 12-inch length. I use the clear, black, red, and green ones. The material is nylon, FYI. Yes, they are frequently used to tie a cable bundle together along the way.
Best regards, Dave.

thanks for the feedback - having the tie sounds like a good solution, but might be a pain in the x
i can't understand why fujinon couldn't get the lens cap size right in the first place: surely it's not that difficult

Hi again yagon,
I might suggest going on a website that sells lens caps. One is LensCaps.com.
Just measure the proper diameter with a calibrated caliper. Then, you can order up/down 1mm, and I am confident that you will find the correct size. This will cost you approx. $5-$10 USD.
Actually the tiewrap isn't such a bad idea; also, it will tend to form the caps to fit the unit over time, allowing you to dispense with the wrap altogether. Trust this helps you some.
Best regards, Dave.

A very small piece of foam tape appllied to the inner surface of the cap worked for my loose caps.
