Vixen BT80M bino collimation help needed
      #1080151 - 08/06/06 11:16 AM

I recently purchased a pair of Vixen BT80M binoculars that need a bit of touch-up on the collimation. Anybody have any assistance to offer here as to how to do it? Can it be done by a user? Searched the site, found nothing- when I Googled the subject, I came up with a couple of hits for the instruction manual for these- but nothing clicked when I tried to view it. Indicated it had downloaded a file, but it wouldn't display. I'd appreciate any help anyone has to offer on this topic. Have touched up my Oberwerk 25x100's hope it can be done as easily!
Thanks!

try looking underneath the rubber grip around the prism assembly, there might be some collmation screws not for sure though.or there might be some tiny collimation screw around the bottom of the helical focusers, regards john

Hi Wes,

I have a set of Vixen BT 125 binos that use interchangeable eyepieces like your BT80. The instruction sheet that is provided with it gives a simple solution to slightly mismatched images at higher magnifications.
Basically, you unlock the collar and rotate either eyepiece until the images merge. Try it while viewing Jupiter as it helps to have a target that is somewhat bright and sharply defined.
It works very well in my Oberwerk BT 100 as well. This should solve your problem unless you have a severe alignment issue with either the prisms or the objectives themselves.

Mike

Thanks for the reply, John- and Mike as well. I tried rotating the eyepieces last night- and did it, as a matter of fact while looking at Jupiter! The moons provided a good target. It didn't really help- however the eyepieces I'm using are matches Sieberts... and, assuming they really are closely matched, might not make much difference being rotated- I don't know. Simply speculation on my part. However- I did find- this afternoon- instructions on these bino's online, and they have collimation instructions- so will have to have a closer look and see what they say. Should be able to correct the problem with them, thank goodness! Thanks for the replies, guys-
