New items to lend?? What do you want to see...
      #10834 - 09/17/03 07:46 PM

We are looking at making an addition to the lending library for the Tiny Eyes program, and I'd like input on what folks would like to see added.

I'm kinda iffy on software because of copyright issues, and while green lasers are great, there is a little to much liability there. Solar filters are probably in the same boat.

I have a few ideas of things to add, but would really like to expand in the direction you folks want.

So.... what's it gonna be?? You tell me!

I wasn't quite sure how this is planned to work. But I'll make my suggestion the way I think it should work.

We are a commumity well over 1000 strong (registered). Judging by the number of hits there are probably 10x that many out and about on the fringes. If this is to be a successful lending program, then not only should we Lend Out, but we should Lend IN. There are so many of us sitting on idle equipment, that we have enough resources to stock a lending library to the point Allister would need to build another garage.

I offer my older 15x70/02 Oberwerk binoculars to get it going. I'm sure I could pick out one of my camera tripods and an L bracket to go along with them.

We the users, the leaders of this community should be thinking about how to support the kids of today and bring them in with us. Suppose we commit to lend IN something that is in complete and good working order for a term of one year. At the end of a year you get your loaner back.

What do you guys think.

My motto is there for a reason.

EdZ:

You've responded to my posts about the Andromeda galaxies before. I really do value your info, and you do truthfully live up to your quote. I am but 14, and you have given me something that most kids don't have the chance to see. I wish parents would care enough about their kids to help them in their interests like me.

Most kids already have mediocre Toys R Us telescopes, they just don't know how to use them. I wish that when I got my first scope (Meade ETX-70AT), someone was there to show me how to use it. BTW: Autostar is the most confusing thing ever invented to make something easier.

I think if we are to donate items, every receiver should also get a class on how to use it.

Adam,

Thank you.

Your response is exactly why I do what I do.

I wish my 13 year old son was as interested in astronomy as you are.

Hopefully the loaner program will continue like it has in the past and that is the person who borrows the equipment has to use it to show kids the sky.
