Jay, kan you post more pics of how you did it? You should have this design protected, before Apple sees it, steals it and turns it into an I-scope

My main ax! Just like me a little rough but comfortable. 14" f4.56. Soon to be turned into a split ring.

Very sweet, Tele! Where'd you get the truss poles?

Thanks. On the trusses I got impatient and bought them from Lowes on a whim, should have saved some bucks and got them from that antenna supply place in Texas. They are just 1" aluminum tubes attached at the top by bolts and wedged in at the bottom with hard wood stops. Collimation is fairly repeatable despite my questionable construction techniques. Set up is quick. Pretty light for a 14"er. I am bugging to turn it into a split-ring though...hopefully before Okie-Tex. I have been experimenting with viddy astronomy. So the tracking ability of a split ring mount should serve my current needs. I have built a EQ table which tracks very well but it compromises my stability a little too much.
Man that ball scope of Jay's is sweet Maybe I could go that route? I've heard it is a fairly strait forward process to drive a ball scope to track.
Is your scope on here Dave??

I can never find aluminum tubes at either Lowe's or Home Depot. Seems all they have is steel or pvc.
I posted a picture of my scope a while back in the reflectors forum. I've made some minor changes to it since then, but it still looks essentially the same. I've made some major changes to the location -- for the better!

Beautiful scope, Dave, and you must have some awesome desert skies! Love that brick edging. .With a few flowers planted around the base, you could revive the "garden scope" idea...

The brick edging, alas, was left behind when we moved. Now it sits on an ugly block of concrete.
But hey, the "garden scope" is actually a great idea! When the observatory gets built, it will be landscaped -- I hope.

Thanks for the comment, Clay.
To answer your question : so far actually nothing secures the tubes yet. I'm still making the clamps. Now with all parts still fresh and new, everything holds well together as is, but I don't think that is a staying condition.

There is more to Jay's Ball Mount Telescope than what you see in his picture.
What Jay did not tell you and what his photo doesn't reveal, is that his telescope comes apart and stows inside the ball for transport and gets covered by the base it rotates on! (Truss poles excepted.)
Neat Jay. We'll look for you at Stellafane.
