Quick question...
To get the adjustable right eyepiece (diopter) to yield best focus, on most Binoculars....do you guys tack up a sheet of Newspaper, or use some type of testing pattern, that you place a certain distance from your binocular, to really get the right side "dialed-in"??
I just got a new Pentax Papilio (6.5x) Binocular, and I'd like to know what type of "system" you use for getting the right side eyepiece to correctly match the left side. I usually just tack up a newspaper, some distance from the binocular, but I'd like to see if someone has a better Mouse-Trap.

I focus each eyepiece on a fairly close but easy double star.
That might not be the preferred method with a 6.5x papillio

EdZ, that's a possible idea, I didn't think of that one. I'm pretty impressed with the Papilio's so far as a general use, up close/Museum/Insect binocular. I have an older pair of Swift Audubon ED 8.5x 44 for the other stuff.

I suspect that stars or double stars will show how well you're focused, better than anything else.(when I focused my binoc to infinity as perfect as I could in daytime, under the stars I found I was off a bit).
Congrats on the Papilio 6.5, I'll bet the low magnification and all the benefits that go along with that make it a joy to use in the daytime (and indoors!). I was thinking of getting one but I really needed at least 18mm eye relief and a smaller body, so I got a roof prism 8x25 instead.

Patrick,
So far I'm pretty happy with the Papilio's. I've just used them a little around the House for checking out the Butterfly's on the Butterfly Bush. I think when I've used the Swift's for Astronomy, I had the same thing happen as far as the focusing being off a little; i.e. the focusing was off a little bit compared to using them at night.
