Telescope Reviews: DIY polarizing moon filters?

I recently bought a pair of variable polarizing filters for my binos, thinking they were for the eyepiece end (they weren't). But in fact these were objective-side filters- non-functioning at that. I've now gotten several pairs of these useless antiques- some for the ep's, others for the objectives. Rotation is fine- but the glass seems fused on the one hand, and detached from one side on the other. I guess this must be a common problem on older units.

Anyway, I'm getting tired of being rooked, and would like to try my hand at making my own. Given the discussions on planispheres and solar filters I wondered whether one could take two largish pieces of polaroid film and pin them together around a common rotational axis in the center, cutting the pieces round to the same radius, large enough so that they can cover any bino objectives- the center would be mounted somewhere between the bino tubes.
