LXD55 10" UHTC received broken

I recently bought the 10" with UHTC. I received it yesterday, and while inspecting the OTA, I noticed the outside cover of the primary mirror had broken and was bouncing around loosely. I'm sending it back.

I had feared something like this might happen. I've read so much about quality problems with the LXD55 line.

I've since spent a little more for a 10" LX200GPS with UHTC. An LXD55 10" cost too much for so many problems to be occuring.

That's unfortunate. Are you sure it wasn't shipping damage?

Is Meade taking care of it or your dealer through Meade?

I doubt it was shipping damage. The box was not damaged. B&H, the dealer, is taking care of it. They've sent me the UPS labels for its return via email. It will be refunded to my card.

From what I could tell, the glue used to secure the cover had come loose. I imagine it could have been the result of rough handling of the packaging from any where between leaving Meade, at the dealer's warehouse, or being shipped to my door. The scope traveled across the country and about half the way back before reaching me. I imagine it could have been handled roughly at some point.

Besides that, it seemed that the cover was inadequately sealed to the ota.

I hope you get it squared away with them. I'm still waiting on my new LXD55 mount to show up.
