Anyyone know what's the best focal reducer to use with the RCX400? I've heard bad things about the Meade 6.3 FR and also have seen some wandering threads about FRs but no firm conclusions reached. The RCX supposedly already has a flat field, so it seems like a FR/field-flattener combo would not be a good idea. I checked out several sources but they all seem to be combo units or were designed for specific telescopes (Vixen, AP, Tak, etc.) - anyone have any suggestions? I want to use the Canon DSLR for imaging at prime focus.

You are correct in the FR/FF thought. That would introduce curvature...
Also, when buying the Meade, you take the gamble that you'd get one from China (bad!), or Japan (GOOD!!!). The chineese made FR/FF has HALF the focal length, and makes it hard to achieve focus...
Don't know which brands to look for, but there are some out there... Chances are, it will NOT be an SCT threaded reducer though... It may be one that threads into either 2" or 1-1/4" (diagonal or EP)... I'm sure someone else can chime in...

DW,
have you checked the yahoo groups for RCX and 200R?
I know I saw mention of recommendations on there a few months ago.
Sorry I can't be more specific.

The Astro-Physics 0.75X telecompressor seems to be the preferred choice. The SCT focal reducers are also field flatteners and you don't want that on the RCX.

For the record, Only the 6.3 SCT is a flattener/reducer.. The 3.3 is just a reducer.

Thanks for all the input, guys. I went to the A-P website and it seemed like their FR's were all designed for A-P scopes only since they had odd-sounding dimensions. How would they adapt to a standard SCT thread?
