Celestron first scopes new
      #10372 - 09/14/03 12:08 PM

I'm considering buying a cheap 1st scope just to get the accessory bundle, and was wondering if any of the sub $200 models were good enough that I could recover the investment by ebaying the scope, or if I'd be better off buying the 60mm altaz and just writing off the $80?

I keep seeing folks mention that they have seen the accessory set offered for $99 without a scope purchase. That might be better if you can find it.

I had the Firstscope 70 AZ. The mount was wobbly, and the hardware was cheap, but the optics were good, and the two eyepieces that came with it weren't bad at all. I sold it to a colleague for her 11 year old son, and he's still happily using it. It's a decent starter scope.

I'd get it for the accessory bundle, then give the scope to a kid for Christmas.

Ho ho ho!

amazon has it for $99, no celestron scope purchase required!
but it's currently backordered!

Thanks for the heads up Space Balls!! I just placed an order for the eyepieces. Amazon estimates shipment between Oct and Nov. The price is defintely worth the wait!

Best Regards,
Ricky

FWIW, I ordered the Celestron kit from Amazon on 9/2 and received it on 9/16. It's a nice kit. the lenses are better than my telescope . I think it is definitely worth the $99. My 9mm EP has a problem - a lens is installed incorrectly (crooked). I'm waiting for a return call from Celestron to get a replacement. I hope their customer service is as good as Orion's is reputed to be.
